Post An Ike (Eisenhower Dollar)

Well, I won the SSDC Scholarship to the ANA's Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs and hung out with Dan Carr at the CS show the first day I got up there. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to go down to Loveland and hang out under the Moonlight as it were as my class took up too much time. But, there was a field trip to his mint that the modern minting class took though and one of the guys brought this back and knowing that I was a big Carr guy he offered it to me. He had another that was struck with one obverse and one reverse faced up too and he asked me which I liked, I picked this one with both strikes positioned the same. He said that dan asked if the students liked Ike's and dan would put the ikes in the press and let the students push the button and make what they'd like with the dies that were installed. So, this is a one of a kind "Rouge" student creation from the Moonlight Mint. And since it isn't an overstrike, well technically I guess it is lol, you should be OK with it jbuck

My class, "Collecting and Investing in Morgan silver dollars" taught by John Baumgart, Michael Fey & Issac Wallie went to the ANA Museums Mini Mint and struck pewter error coins on a 7-ton screw press creating any error we wanted aside from clashed dies lol. I'll share those when I get time.

I like ikes

He charged $50, which I thought was OK since the engraving isn't as exquisite as others. It's a simple engraving, sort of like a carnival token. I got it all slabbed up now. I think the labels turned out cool too.



In other news . . . . it seems that I'm on another roll with Ike rolls. This one came in today- 1976 Type 1. There's also a nice foggy 1971-S proof in there, which was also in my mail box.

The foggy toned 71-S proof. I love the look of "dirty silver" Ikes. This one is extremely hazy. Man, I love getting loads of Ikes in the mail. I've got six more on the way. Stay tuned. . . .

Thanks, jbuck. It seems that every so often I just go crazy buying BU rolls like this, but at least I'm using these to upgrade the rolls in my monster box. I still have several "circulated" rolls in there, but the goal is to eventually have all 25 rolls of BU specimens. It will take time, but it's fun too!
