this post is cause for thought. If a 09-S VDB was $9 in 1954 and has appreciated to $1,400 ish could we ever expect for comparable grow over the next 54 yrs. Could that coin ever bring $217,00?! Then, again, no one in 1954 would have ever believed that the coin would be at $1,400 in 2010. As I look at this, it seems like the bubble that ate the housing market. At some point, we have to adjust inflation out or we get to prices that mean you will carry a $20,000 bill in your wallet.

Sorry, hope this is not too much of a hijack but the prices were there . This book has to make you wonder. And, if the market is going to change, how will this effect our investment?

Jim

No need for an apology Jim...my thoughts exactly. Thank you for the post.

In my opinion, the '09 S vdb will always been "over-valued". Understandably so though... Many a "collector" got his start with a simple Lincoln Cent folder or book. My first book was given to me over 40 years ago. 40 years later, I find myself alongside more and more that want to fill that hole in their book. Problem is, they only minted 484 thousand...I doubt that adjusting inflation will help. Not in this case anyway.

The housing market is a whole different animal...

$40 for a 1901S quarter! That would have been amazing. I notice they do not have 16/16 Buffalo nickel, was that variety not known then?
