I have had some bad experiences with tellers, but generally I am very happy. There is one that searches and we talk about stuff, she asks questions and I help her. She appreciates that and treats me well. Always orders ocins for me and asks if I want her to order more. I was a at ntoher bank yesterday dumping some random coin and not picking anything up. I was talking to one of the tellers I like and she asks "do you want a box of coins?" It is much nicer that way. If a teller gave me attitude I wouldn't put up with it. One of the banks which a use just removed their coin machine, Beneficial in Philly. I wrote them a letter and told them I will do my banking somewhere else. I don't have time to play their games.

I see there a few people that understand the importance of customer service and it's effect on a business...it's that concept that enabled me to retire at 51 without the benefit of a retirement plan. You'll never convince me that customer service doesn't play a huge roll in success. As SDcoinguy said..demand it !

I think the lie was questionable conduct, but calling out rude/ineffective service is totally justified. Coming from a job that emphasizes customer service above everything else (Starbucks), I've become very observant of subpar service at other places that I go. If I have a negative experience somewhere, I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt once. But if it happens again, I don't go there again. I take my business elsewhere. I'm a bit too non-confrontational to actually say anything to the person in question or their manager, but on several occasions I've mentioned especially good service to a manager or supervisor. Rewarding positive behavior is, in my opinion, more effective than punishing negative behavior. The next time you have a particularly friendly or efficient experience at a bank, restaurant, grocery store, wherever, take the few minutes to mention the person's name to a supervisor or manager and let them know that their employee is one of the best.
Further, I'd like to mention that we do get "high maintenance" customers on a daily basis. However, our job is make their day and if that means we have to literally "grin and bear it", we do it. No snide comments, no scowls. Do what they want, and if we need to vent later, we will. But for that moment, our job is to do what they ask regardless of how much work it is or how inane it might seem. Because there are plenty of other places they can take their business.

As a retail manager, I come down hard on my employees when they take an attitude with a customer. I have zero tolerance for that BS... as others said in this thread, if you don't wanna smile and be nice and do your job, there's plenty of people out there that do. Nobody is irreplaceable, especially not in this economy. After sending an employee home for being an uppity *** Edited by Staff | The bad word filter is in place for a reason. Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. *** with a customer, I really don't see her or any of my employees doing it any more. Sometimes you just need to make an example out of someone.
So whenever I'm at a bank and someone gets an attitude with me, I usually ask to speak to their manager and let loose on 'em. As a manager, I'd appreciate if customers would do that more frequently, it makes my job a lot easier, and I don't need any bad eggs causing issues for my store.

No offense guys, banks handle your personal BANKING NEEDS , they are not there to supply the hobbist or collectors needs or act as currency exchanges
I was a teller many years ago. We all the time turned down request IF WE DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY or THOUGHT it would make us short the rest of the week , we had people try to withdraw 9,999 one dollar bills we did not have them or needed them for other customers. People trying to buy coin boxes when we had none in sock or running low happened often and they were turned down
A bank orders what they think they will need . If someone ask for two boxes of pennies. Sounds innocent enough two boxes. But when a teller gives them out on wendsday they might be short by sat and cant get more coins till next week. The teller has to consider having enough coins FOR EVERYONE THAT COMES INTO BANK not just enough for ONE OR TWO PEOPLE
Eazy solutions
Goto a bank/s that does not complain Goto a bank/s that lets you preorder Goto a bank/s that deal with high volume and have plenty coin boxes in stock
It might take a combination of banks. When a bank says we handle ALL your banking needs you guys TAKE IT TO LITERALLY It does not mean everybank can please everyone all the time. Banking needs in the banks eyes is not currency exchange or selling boxes of coins. Banking needs are cashing checks ,deposit money ,with draw ( in currecny that they have in stock )
Many times we had people want to withdraw 100 100dollar bills we were ordered not to give them all out to one customer because all the customers have the right to 100's bills in their change as well.Give that guy that wants all 100's some 50's and 20's or have him preorder the 100-100 dollar bills
If someone orders rolls of coin each week then the bank orders more and more coins epecting the roll hunter to show up and what if he vanishes / then they are stuck with more coins to send back.
BANKS DO NOT LIKE HAVING A LARGE SURPLUS OF MONEY or any extra money ! It gets sent back wether its paper or coins,
You keep 1000's in boxs of coin quarters ,halves, dimes, nickles in stock and the bank gets burned down/robbed/ flooded like in katrina you have lots of money at risk to be stolen or damaged.
The bank managers are instructed to have MINIMAL MONEY IN THE VUALT AT ALL TIMES .
Sorry guys thats the way banks work . Yes I did work a one and dont always side will the teller.
I'm just saying some of your expectations one " one bank " doing all you need is unrealistic. Exp if the bank is a small bank or does low volume transactions in cash
Sorry I dont think any ONE BANK can handle EVERYONES NEEDS.
Thats why myself and many roll searchers have many diff accounts.
I get coin from 2 banks no hassels and one with amachine to dump at. If someone gave me a hassle at one bank I got coins at , Id simply go to another bank no need to cry piss or moan about it.

Roll hunters with bones to pick are just hurting themselves in the long run With all the " un happy with teller roll hunter pissing and complaining occurances in the bank" My guess is that pretty soon most banks will stop doing currency exchanges for coins over $5 , charge per box ,set limits for personal accounts Unless the people have alot of money in the bank or a commercial account set up
if it becomes a hassle for the bank mangers to deal with coin shortages or orders they will stop it eventually
My saying is " behappy with what you get and be happy your getting boxes at all "
One time a guy made a huge stink in the bank. The police were called he was escorted out , restraining order filed ,account closed and mailed a check becuase he yelled at one of the tellers and called her " dumb bi*tch "becuase he wanted all his money in 20s and we were out and had to give him 10's bills then he started yelling at the manager. We tripped the silent alarm the guy was hostile and a potential risk to everyone in the bank.
just go to a diff bank rather then make a stink if you cant get the rolls your heart desires

I agree with Coppertop. I use 4 or 5 banks a week and if I get attitude from one of them I don't go back for a while. When I return they actually say they missed me.

Both sides were wrong in this case... The teller should never complain to the customers or make remarks about having to do their job, if she doesn't like her job than find a new one. In reality she should just handle the requests from the few coin collectors that come in a week and get boxes, it reallys takes only a few minutes to get what they ask and get them out of there (plus she can talk about you after you leave to her co-workers) It is hard to lie about something that serious in my opinion, I believe in karma and lying about something that serious would make parnoid for a few weeks atleast, but at the same time it was kind of funny. Either way good luck to you

First, this thread does not really relate to Modern US coins and should be moved. Second, this thread is following a recent trend trying to establish some sort of "us against the banks" problem. Well, it is getting a little old. Banks do not exist to serve collectors. This is done. The next person that starts a "My bank stinks!" topic will earn a vacation. I apologize for being so blunt.
