I was wondering what getting a roll stamped and cancelled means and does for the roll?

First thing it does is bump the value way up. It does two things which leads to the first. It appeals to both coin collector AND stamp collectors. The value even gets higher if the stamp is also a first day of issue and postmarked, like on the 2009 Lincoln Penny rolls. It also provides proof that every single coin in that roll was an early release.

However, by the same token, the "First Day Coin Covers" that the Mint issued for each and every State Qtr. and Territory, has not seen much premium AT ALL.
These are "stamped and cancelled" first day issue....and it doesn't seem to matter much, even on "key date" ones in BU condition and sealed with both P&D mints.....

I assume they'll continue to do this for the ATB Qtrs., but I also assume that there will be no different result.
There's just no real "demand" or "interest" in them, I believe is the main problem.

So, bank rolls from the "ceremonies" may draw enough interest for buyers and collectors to put a premium, happily, on these.....but the F.D.C.C.'s are quite similar, and get NUTHIN' !........
Go figure.....
