Yes Dave, agreed! I was a bit simplistic last night...I would like to further add that sometimes us posters fixate on scratches, nicks, etc. when we look at these photos...When grading I've been taught and also know, that 75 to 90 percent of a coins grade is determined by the Obverse. Also, Luster and Strike are the most important factor when determining an MS specimine. Because of the way Morgans were handled,.. nicks, abbrasions, scratches, etc, come in third as far as grading and determining a coins value and grade. That's why I like the smaller photos, especially the above photos taken by Gyrene. But, photos on the internet as you stated ARE harder to determine so I see your point also.
