Yup, I bought it online for around 50-80 Euros. Don't really remember, some time passed now.

Even with other dating systems, I still wonder how far we could take it... probably not quite to BC even theoretically (it's already a precarious chain from where we're at now to the 8th century, and once we get* to that point Arab coins dry up and I have no idea what could take us through the next several decades). Still, the 1502 coin (as well as the "1503" coin) is really really cool! (In other news, I've finally decided to buy that 1517 Zweier... it was such a cool coin to have, even if it has no real place in this thread anymore!)
*) realistically we never will, of course, or at least not before 2020 or so... I did say theoretically

I don't think we will ever reach BC. Because I think this thread will not accept period dates like 115-113BC. I think the rules are to have a fixed date which is visible on the coin. I am not really sure, can someone correct me?

I believe that is correct, based on the conversation a couple pages back. We cannot have a range of years.

Glad to see this thread still going. So was Pheroow's 1502 confirmed and we are looking for 1501?

Good question. I could not see the date on it, so one of the experts will have to confirm it.

I am not really sure, can someone correct me? You're absolutely correct that "115-113 BC" won't count as a valid date in this thread. However, some BC-era coin series (mainly Ptolemaic and Seleucid, but it varied) did indeed involve dated coins (in local calendars of course); and in the first six centuries AD there's a lot of regnal, consular and one-year-type dating (from what I could tell, the former two versions are borderline fine for this thread, and we'll think about the last one if/when we ever get there). ...I've since realized that the gap between early Byzantine regnal years and Arabic Hijri dating is conveniently "closed" by late Sassanid regnal years. This still leaves a rather precarious chain at circa 650-700 AD; no idea if there's really a way to close it properly (nor, now that I think of it, whether there's a way to get further up through the 5th and 4th centuries). Reminds me a bit of my recent-ish attempts to assign finite Erdos numbers to successively earlier scientists (if you know what an Erdos number is, you'll probably understand). The farthest I've got (yet) was Ben Franklin, and I'm reasonably sure now that there's probably no way to continue it further (say, into the 17th century) without relaxing the rules significantly.

You can fill the 7th century to 15th century with Islamic Coins which are dated in yrs. AH.

I kind of realized that (though make that "7th century" actually 8th - they didn't get around to making coins with AH dates until about 70 AH, which corresponds to 690 AD). My question is more about 7th, 5th and 4th centuries (I know 6th is full of Byzantine regnals, so it's less of a problem).

We still need confirmation that Pheroow's 1502 counts and that we are now waiting on 1501.

I reckon that Mr. ErdÅ's is leading us off topic.
