thats nuts Quote: That's $24,000 or 48,000 half dollars If I had 24,000 or whatever 8 boxes cost (4,000)? I think I could find something better to do with the money-- I mean I get a roll hear and there but this "box idea" is nuts just my .02

I just got the cost breakdown from brinks and it's insane! Between needing a commercial account, a commercial building and crazy high charges, they need me to have a $100,000 bond. And this is just for them to pick up MY money and deposit it.
Think I'll stick to my normal 6 boxes a week.

The total weight is in the neighborhood of 1344 lbs. I go by 28 lbs per box.

This is just some info I received from a friend. He told me that Walmart, K-mart, and Target order more coins than the banks do. So has anyone ever tried to get these boxes from them? Big Ed

I can only imagine what a Walmart cashier would say when I ask for a box of pennies. I have heard the faces people get from bank employees. I would guarentee they'd only be worse.

This does raise the question of what a reasonable amount of boxes is to acquire per week and per bank? The one right by my house I thought I'd start a little big, just so I could get boxes of various things to see how it goes. I've been getting either 4 or 5 boxes of things the last 3 weeks (usually 1 or 2 Halves, then some nickels, quarters, dimes, pennies, etc.).
Mostly I just want to see which ones are the most fun/profitable and easiest to move around.
I was thinking that I'd go with 2 boxes of halves, plus a box of nickels, each week from that bank. I'd like to do a fourth box, but wonder if I'd be pushing my luck? They seem really nice about it, and I always time my visits when I think they will be slow, so I'm not slowing down people trying to do "normal" business -- so they don't seem annoyed. What do you guys think?
Also, to what extent do you think it's OK to pull from other banks? I've been thinking I'd get a box a week from a different branch of the same bank and then maybe 1 or 2 boxes a week from a different bank. I definitely have the bug, though, so I don't want to be going to crazy (but I feel like if I could I'd go through 10 boxes a day!)

Go for it, menacing meanies generously offer the old "just trying to help". Come on ruining it for the rest of us? Billions were minted and millions get searched God Bless the United States of America and American ingenuity. I doubt your half dollar orders will significantly alter the current banking industry coin order policy's. Hope you find those 40%ers.

It has been nine years. I am sure they either found them or got over it.
