I have read also where there is only a 10% ratio of PM to Paper. I have also read where it does not really matter as what PM are in the vaults are only leased from the Central Banks in the first place. Which in effect means that there are no PMs to back the ETFs. I am not an expert on these things, but the people who write about them are. I think we will look back at this time historically and our Grand Children will get their mouths washed out with soap if they use the word "Leverage", for anything other than an Engineering excercise!

It means you're getting further away from the real thing.

gold = real thing
gold certificate = derivative
stock in a company that owns gold certificates = double derivative
puts or calls on that stock = triple derivative
