HEY, if I knew it was going to look that good...... Only kidding. I knew it had good detail. Looks really nice. Quite a difference with a little TLC.

The coin looks nice as is. It will keep a few more days withoit the Ren, Just make sure it is in a nice dry place.

I keep a desiccant close to my coins until I can finish them properly. This will keep all the moisture away and even draw out any residual moisture from the coin. You can find them in many different products. Those little white bags that say do not eat.

Went to a few places to look for Ren Wax but didn't find it. Before I order some, are there any more readily available alternatives to it? And is wax 100% necessary for preserving a cleaned ancient?

I don't know of alternatives, but its not absolutely required to put wax on any coin. In fact, I've read some threads where collectors despise wax on coins. I do believe its a personal call.

I guess as long as I keep it in its flip and the flip in a dry place it should be ok, right?

I have Ren wax, but I've only put it on select coins. The rest have no wax, are kept in their flips in three ring binders, and have been just fine.

All right that sounds good. Thanks again jw. Really appreciate the help you've been giving me! Also, just curious. I've heard of ancients being soaked in olive oil for many months and even years. How bad does a coin have to look to be immersed for such a long time?

I have a group of about nine that have been soaking for nearly a year. Every time I take them out I can get a little more crude off them, but not enough. I have a bad feeling they are going to turn out to be slugs, but I will keep at them. They are the last uncleaned coins I bought. I just got tired of the same 4th century coins in bad to not so bad shape. If I could find some I could feel reasonably certain there would be something else under the crude besides the slugs and the Constans/Conatantius II soldier and standards/fallen horseman coins.
