This came from a roll search. The obverse obviously has issues. The reverse is perfect. Wondering whats going on here. At first glance I thought Dryer Coin. But it still has its rim edge on it.

Looks more like a partially Grease Filled Die.

I agree that it almost certainly a Greaser. Have you taken the mass, just to rule out certain planchet issues?

Would be fun--someday--to see what a legit greased filled die looks like. I can imagine, but a visual would be very cool.

My guess is that it looks like hard black gunk with all sorts of metal dust mixed into it.
