So I took it to my coin dealer and he noticed a peculiar sound as well, and the coin weighs 4.8 grams. Sounds fishy to me...

Nickel should weigh in at 5grams. There are many possibilities.

Why would this nickel be faked? What am I missing, my lists don't show it as extremely valuable.

4.8g is normal for the weight. Sound is not a very good indicator for counterfeits. I don't see any reason to question the authenticity of this coin.

As several other members have indicated, "ring" is an unreliable indicator of metal content. Any slight internal imperfection/interruption in the grain will deaden the ring.

Guys, could this be an annealing issue? I think the nickels are baked to harden them. If this one was under-baked, maybe that'd make it softer and thus kill it's "ring." What do you think?

The annealing process softens the planchets to prepare them for striking.

I believe I have the same Nickel. Here is a link to my post that I started about it trying to get an answer.

Have you been successful at finding any answers?

You know, I looked up the squirt nickel online and the ones I saw had a milled out back that was covered with a metal/plastic "button" and couldn't be mistaken for a "squirt" nickel.

Are there others that look 100% real?
