I think he means half, quarters, dime in one Mint set...like a silver proof set
I think the silver proof set fills that need.....

Interesting idea. Love it, hate it.  Personally, I do not see it happening. A problem for some collectors is the necessity of updating the future dated album pages to include the "silver uncirculated" hole. However, there are plenty of people that collect the sets as sets. This will be an interesting discussion. |

they already do this with commemoratives. I think the claddies might complain that it means they have to buy one more coin to complete a set- but a relatively low run in silver would hearken back to the good old days.

it's hard to keep up with so many sets now as it is.

I don't know about a uncirculated silver set, but I would like to see a silver set that is all silver. I collect the silver proof sets but have very little interest in the clad coins included along with the silver coins.

When I bust open my Silver Proof Sets to put in my Dansco's....there they are ! .... Those Lincoln's, Nickels, Native Dollars, and Presidential dollars JUST STARING ME IN THE FACE ! And they're saying.... " Hey there ! I know you like Silver, but we're NOT Silver". " We're actually THE EXACT SAME COINS YOU FIND IN YOUR REGULAR PROOF SETS" ! ......  So, maybe it would be pretty cool to see these typically "non-silver" coins ACTUALLY be silver ? Very interesting......but probably not ever likely....  |

I dunno a silver cent or silver "nickel"? Feels like a bad marketing decision to me. Something I would expect from the Morgan Mint but not from the U.S. Mint. IMHO

Personally, I'd rather spend my limited coin budget on collecting older coins rather than keeping up with even more new coins every year. We have silver proof coins already, that's enough.

Please no, there's already too many sets. That's why the satin finish mint sets didn't last. People still wanted regular circulation strikes, so it just left them with too many things to collect. I don't want cents, nickels or dollars struck in silver either. There are already plenty of silver products out there. The only reason it's a good idea for the dimes, quarters and halves is because that was the historical composition. Likewise, I'd like the cents in proof sets to be struck from bronze instead a plated zinc.
I'd rather see them pare the various sets down a bit - get rid of clad proof sets. That way you've got silver proof sets, and clad mint sets and that's it. Or maybe if that's too far, make a combined proof set that's basically the silver proof set with the clad half dollar, dime and quarters added on so that you're not buying two sets and duplicating the cent, nickel and dollars.

What I really want to see is a "combined" proof set, to eliminate the duplication caused by buying both a silver and clad set. A close option is that the silver quarters are available separately, but then there are those pesky dimes and half dollars to worry about. |

A good bit of my "dupes" are just laying in storage. Possible future albums ? A mess for my daughter to deal with when she's much older ? I dunno......it's an issue that I really don't "deal" with at all......I just continue to accumulate them year after year ! ..... Edited by eaglefoot
