Earle,
You know, I never looked at the medals design in that light. I completely agree with you.

Earle42 - Thank you for that. As someone currently serving, it means a lot to read something from someone who actually cares.

@Fred - and thank YOU for serving. I have high regard and respect for anyone in the service - also our police officers, firemen, and anyone else who works to keep us all safe/save lives/keep us free. And, no, I never had any of these positions. The closest I came was Air Force ROTC in high school (and loved it!). But I was a teacher who tried his best to impress on my kids who the real heros in America are. And always tried to impress upon them the amazing privilege they were given to be born in America.

I would only buy that coin if I could get it for less than melt. I think it's a hideous coin

Quote: Now look at this new 911 medal. Note that there is not a reference to the innocent people who died in the 911 attacks - the "Second Pearl Harbor of the 20th Century." I have never heard of the September 11 2001 attack referred to as the "Second Pearl Harbor of the 20th Century." especially since it took place in the 21st Century.

Earle, I need a like button for your post because you said EXACTLY what I think about this coin. And I didn't even know those other coins existed. They are incredible. Thank you for posting them.

I posted a thread about this when they released the images of this abortion. As Earle said, it is a slap in the face of those who served that day and after. Being a retired firefighter, I take that piece of junk to heart. Thats all they could come up with to honor my fallen brothers and sisters? Pffftttt. The designer should be hung.

Not to be contrary but I like it. At least proceeds go to the survivors fund. I'm sure gains from the privately minted medals do not!

Quote: The designer should be hung. I don't understand the reasoning behind wishing physical harm to the designer of a commemorative coin, especially when I am sure this person did not have final authorization or final selection of the minting of it. Wow.

You are absolutely right! I feel goofy! Sorry about that! I guess I was letting my anger get the best of me! My father called it the second Pearl Harbor he had lived through. I am not sure how/why I wrote "of the 20th century!" I remember when I started to write this I was thinking of him calling it "The Second Pearl Harbor" and have seen this in other places on the web.
