I took the liberty of printing out your note so I could see it better. The fold I see on the reverse puts the signature in about the correct position. Problem I have is that there is no way the treasury seal could be where it is with the paper folded that way.

Yes the mark does fade over time, we here HATE the pen.

As far as two notes being involved, the green seal doesn't look bold enough to have been printed it looks more like a wet ink transfer, but I still can't figure how that would have happened either. If it is a n ink transfer it will be backwards, if it is printed it will be aligned correct. This is one of those notes I would love to have in my hand so I could see it under my microscope :)

There are things I see that make me think its real but without a closer exam who can say? I would suggest taking it to a collector/dealer in your area and have them look at it. They might be able to shed some light on it for you. I think its safe to say that if it is a real error you have got a really unique one, so for your sake I hope it is.

Yes, that does help. It's displayed correctly so its not an ink transfer. The part of this that is confusing me is how the seal can be on the obverse and the signature on the reverse if the note went through the overprint process folded. I'm not familiar enough with over printing on these older notes to really be of any help. I suppose it's possible that the overprint was done in more than one pass, but if that is the case why is it not bold like a normal seal since it was printed in that spot? With the way that note had to be folded for the signature to be on the reverse I would expect to see at least part of the treasury seal on the reverse as well above the sig. Also the "Y" in Humphrey is separated from the rest of the name possibly from a small gutter fold which means that possibly the paper didn't go willingly through this process :)
