Now I know and tomorrow morning I will give her some information and my card. She doesn't take things the wrong way, she knows how kids are, she even admits it. But as I stated earlier, she isn't well liked. Most teacher really do not like her. But I find her class interesting. I said earlier that I love math and would love to get into economics. I'll apologize and see where it goes from that.

I would phrase that a little different. "needs help" might be judged negatively by some. Ask her if she has questions about coins, and allow her to make the next step.

I get what you are saying as she could take it as I am calling her dumb. I didn't mean to cause anything by it. I just like to flaunt my information and wanted to participate. I hope she didn't take it the wrong way.

I don't think what you did was right. While you said you didn't intend to show her up you did. To me it's a matter of respect you completely disrespected your teacher. You seemed to relish in correcting her in front of the entire class. I'm glad to here your zealous about coins and want to educate others but you need to do it in the right way.

I know what I did was wrong and I realize that I could of went about it a different way. It was a heat of the moment thing. I'm sure that everyone has done something in the heat of the moment and then went home to think about it and realize what they did was totally wrong. This is one of those situations. I am going to apologize tomorrow morning and tell her that I didn't mean anything by it.

Although this never happened to me in school I did once have an office supervisor who seemed to rule by "I know best" and intimidation. We were about the same age but I just ignored her attitude and her tactics and treated her like a colleague. If I thought she was wrong I would have a quiet word. It worked a treat and we developed a professional relationship out of mutual respect even though some of my other colleagues thought (wrongly) we were having a personal relationship.

The lesson learned was that it's best to treat everyone with respect but just don't take any BS.

Meh, I do not really have a problem with how you handled it Yankee, a teensy bit smarmy but mostly harmless and well-intentioned. I have run into issues like that myself and some teachers just have an attitude that no student could possibly teach them anything, they just seem to think that they are superior to their students in every way possible. That seems to be an attitude confined to those ivory tower teachers who have never held a real job outside of academia.

Yankee,

I too am disappointed in your posts and the way you disrespected your teacher. Remember, not everyone knows about coin collecting and it's not your place to show any teacher up. Do you want to reach your goals? Talk less and listen more in class. That is how you will become successful.

Oh, and for those of you giving Yankee praise for this, you did him no favor. Shame on you. Teachers are respected in every country in the world but America. Then everyone turns around and complains about the state of education in America. Respect teachers for a change if you want things to improve.

I apologized today, know what she said? She said "That's ok, I know what you were meaning to do was harmless."

As I stated before, I was not trying to disrespect her. Even she viewed it as something harmless. I don;t think that I should be criticized for it. I didn't mean anything by it. It would be different if I cursed her out and walked out of class.

I said all of this very calmly.

And I don't think biokemist was praising me for it, I saw it as he saw what I was trying to do, spread the wisdom of coins and don't take any BS from anybody. And that;s exactly what I do.

Hmmmm, that darn ol' Wobblebottom, eh? .... she sounds a bit brutal ...

=> yah, I'm guessing that Wobblebottom is probably "not" gonna be nominated for inspirational teacher of the year ... is it just me?

=> but good effort, yankee1227 (you get full points for shaking hands) ...

Oh, and if you ever decide to use your math-skills in an engineering kinda way => then I certainly have an opening for a young dude interested in "blowin'-up stuff" as a mining engineer! ... hey, I'm just sayin'

=> always keep your options open!

Ummmm ... or was I reading it incorrectly? (sometimes it's hard to tell "tone" when you're reading an e-mail)

=> was Wobblebottom's response to yankee1227 a good thing?

... either way, the invite still stands (engineering rocks)

Geeeh sorry ... I can kinda tell that I've creeped-out all/some of the teachers (that was "not" my intention) ... I just type (that's me) ... OCD

Shame on you.

I nor anyone else here has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, sounds like this topic is hitting a little too close to home for you.

Teachers are respected in every country in the world but America.

Oh please, that is blatantly false so get off your high horse. I, along with the vast majority of Americans, have plenty of respect for good teachers, my own mother was a teacher for 30+ years and one of my high school teachers was intrumental in me choosing my career path. However, every single teacher out there is not a bright shining role model to look up to. Too many teachers nowadays have that NEA/AFT union entitlement where they can do no wrong but the student is ALWAYS wrong, those types have no business educating the youth of America. Teacher strikes are becoming more prevalent due to that entitlement mentality. IMO, teachers should NEVER have a right to strike because the only purpose it serves it to hurt the students that they are supposed to be in class with and educating. I personally knew a few kids at other high schools in my area who lost college athletic scholarship opportunities due to teachers strikes which caused the cancellation of their senior athletic seasons where college scouts would have been watching. The quality of education is certainly declining but it has very little to do with students and their "respect" for teachers...
