"hesgut" => he's-got-guts guts => verb (informal) => to show determination or courage (especially in the combination guts out) ... he gutsed out a 6-1 win ... "optimism" is a totally different word (hopefully you will continue collecting coins and not worry about the sky-falling and our hobby crashing into the abyss) ... Ummm, on the bright-side => it sounds like there is a bunch of us that will buy-up your coins as their value is plumetting into darkness ... again (just joking) => (don't worry, be happy)

Quote: If this were a class in philosophy and debate, you would have the winning argument. However, you're really spitting a very tiny hair and I think you know what I meant by calling my money disposable....yes it is disposable income which I can afford to lose, but I don't want it in the garbage. Of course no one really wants their money in the garbage. Your opinion is that a price drop is bad for the hobby. What I offer is a different opinion, that a price drop means more affordable coins to finish my albums. What you and I have is a difference of opinion about our coin collecting goals. Nothing wrong with that. Quote: I think it's absurd for you to claim that you have reached a level of bliss, so to say, that some or even all of your money has no value at all to you. What is absurd is you making such a statement about me when you do not know me. My coin budget is a very small percentage of my income. I probably lost more money to inflation than I spent on coins this year. Quote: You've either reached a stage of conscious living with total content or you're not being truthful with yourself. I am totally content. Just ask anyone who does know me. By the way, I went back and re-read this thread to see where you and I got off kilter. I missed where you mentioned about where we are on agreement, and I apologize for not acknowledging that. I hope to make this conversation a bit more constructive from this point on. For the record, nothing I have written has ever been with malice. I mean, seriously, I missed where I put contraction for contradiction. Obviously I need to slow down a bit.

Quote: Maybe the new upcoming steel pennies will outlive the "Zincolns" since many of those will be corroded down to dust! Taken a look at any 1943 cents lately?

I wasn't taking offense at any of the comments. It's just my nature to want to debate things. Some of the regulars around here, including very possibly, you, jbuck, saw what happened between myself and Steve over restored Buffalo nickels. It got ugly, then other posters joined in and it got even uglier. I certainly would like to avoid that. To tell you the truth, I don't even know how we got on debating each other's disposable income. I originally just wanted to point out the perceived threat I see to coin collecting from them becoming obsolete. I suppose the two of us do see the hobby differently and we may see the value and purpose of money differently as well. I'm not certain if either of us can really be right or wrong. I feel I must respond to this Quote: What is absurd is you making such a statement about me when you do not know me. I don't know what to say, I mean you literally said it yourself on page 4 of this thread. Quote: I could throw it in the waste bin and forget it existed Does such a statement not refer to the indifference you have towards the money you've used to pay for coins. I guess on these boards I'm just a troublemaker. I just see so many threads that are so boring with nothing but simple posts giving a direct mundane answer to the question stated. I just like to actually discuss things. This was a pretty good thread with several people giving good opinions.

Quote: Does such a statement not refer to the indifference you have towards the money you've used to pay for coins. I can see how it would appear that way. While I would not want to lose my yearly budgeted coin money, if I had lost it (a run in with a mugger, a hole in my pocket, a shell game on the street corner, etc.) I would not be too upset because, as I said above, my coin budget is a (very, very,) very small percentage of my income. Of course, once I finally give in and decided buy those key dates mentioned on page three, my tune may will change (especially since that price drop is not likely to happen before then).

Aside from the usual fear of theft & fire, My next fear is loosing my entire collection in sacrificing them to sell for emergency use I hope it will never happen to anyone of us...

Quote: Mine would be when I die , my wife selling them for what I told her I paid for them! Educate your wife and produce an up-to-date inventory. One of my colleagues failed to do that and even though his wife knew I was interested in his collection, she sold it for £4,000 - it was probably worth £200,000.

I think it would be the fear of my coins toning. Have been known to break them out of the holders and spend them if they turn yellow.
