1967 Jefferson Nickel / Polished Die Clash Or Progressive Indirect Design Transfer?

JstnPwll New Member United States 30 Posts	Posted Today 1H 17M ago I saw someone else post a nearly identical nickel on Reddit and comments called it Progressive Indirect Design Transfer. I know the larger shape of Jefferson on the reverse appears very similar to PIDT, but I'm wondering if this is actually a die clash that was polished down a lot so the die could be reused. 1. I believe the first T from TRUST (clashed from the obverse onto the reverse) was missed during polishing and still appears clearly at the bottom corner of the building. 2. The top of the building clashed onto the obverse over the end of the ponytail. These impressions are a lot stronger and more defined than what I understand PIDT is capable of. 3. Jefferson's neck is all but gone, presumably polished away when they were cleaning up the die. What do you think? Report this Post to the Staff

That's why the low points of Jefferson's neck are missing, starting with the cravat. The reverse is PIDT. It is much too wide and soft to be a clash. Clashes leave sharply defined creases, and if an engraver had abraded the die face, it would not look like that. It seems strange that the reverse doesn't really match the obverse, but the Mint would pair up used dies to keep striking coins. In the future, please give us at least one image of each coin face in the proper orientation. Report this Post to the Staff
