Thanks for your reply Seal006. Alot of the coins that I have are from rolls and circulated with whatever grime and gunk that they accumulate through the years and some of the letters are not clearly visible. I kinda thought that the first looks a little like the FG serif that you have provided above albeit just more worn? That's the problem I'm having right now as alot of the 88's are pretty worn. Anyways, nice find on your part and thanks.

Easiest thing to look for is the tail on the G. I too have found many that are grimed up. If it is not an MS coin, I will wipe it down with a tissue. If it needs a bit more persuading I will soak it in acetone.

Yes, that is an excellent reference for RDV-006, and the 1988-D 1ยข WTRD-010 is the coin I found that Joe bought from me. Wexler's photos are much better than the ones I take.

Thank you both for the info. The Wexler site is the one that I was following when looking up this coin. Good info and link. I haven't tried acetone yet but I have tried electrolysis which seems to work pretty good. How much does one usually sell for in say XF40 - AU50 condition? :) I've seen a few on ebay but wasn't looking for them at the time. Thanks again. |

I sold mine ungraded at $140. Joe got it slabbed and it went AU-55 or 58. I would say graded is the way to go if it is in great condition. I could have asked much more for mine if it had been graded. I just never thought it would grade that high. I have been told that I undergrade most of the coins I sell on my site. Bad for me, but great for those that buy them. Mine was the discovery piece for the 10th die pair. Joe got a great deal, and I made $139.99 profit, as I found it in a roll while searching one night. Ungraded I would say XF40 - AU50 would easily sell for $50-$100 to the right buyer.

That first picture sure looks like a RDV-006 Reverse of 1989 coin to me.
The 2 die cracks should make for an easy match to the die #.

As I pointed out, there does not appear to be a tail on the G. The RDV-006 has a tail that the RDV-005 and 007 do not have.

The RDV-006's for 1988 are usually in earlier die states. If the die is as worn as much as the first example, it is probably a 005.
