ok, I wasn't sure, Coinnation.com states that all 71-74 Iks are 40% silver so I was just making sure

only the S mint Ikes are silver from 71-72,and then in 73-74 the S mint was issued in both a clad and a silver version.Also a few 1974D and1977D Ikes in silver clad were made in error,according to the 2011 RedBook...hope this helps |

I just went back and re-read the sire, it does state the S mintmark so I was wrong. I bought them and figured what they hay, I could always use them if only worth face value

They likely aren't silver and probably not worth more than face. However they are rare to find in circulation and are cool coins. So send some pics and enjoy your free pickup....
My local coin shop has a huge bin of them for $1.25 each so someone must think they are worth over face....

Yeah the dollars were in an old envelope that had alreadsy started turning yellow from age, I am betting someone had them stashed away from a long time and cashed them in for face because they needed the money or just didn't think they were worth keeping any longer at face value.

I actually got 21 Ike dollars from a local bank yesterday. The teller said they came in a deposit, so it looks like someone spent them. Five were in at least AU condition but the rest were well used. No "s"s. I guess I just spend the well used ones and make someone else's day. |

Six Ikes at my Credit Union today. Three of them has silver searcher marks on them. First time I've ever seen that on anything other than a Kennedy half. |

I have started asking the branches around me if they have any when I am looking for loose half's as well. I figure 20-25 years from now they will be very scarce and just be a neat coin to have in a collection.
