One more question. On the Peace dollar their is a line coming through the hair on the obverse that extends out under the "Y" in Linberty. Is this possibly from a die crack? The reverse is kind of a weak strike. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Thanks.

If it's raised, it's prolly a die crack. I've got a 22d that could be better called a fractured die, with prolly around 6" of cracks total.

VF and almost AU; the 1922 has a really nice strike and I'd have called a more weakly-struck coin AU for sure. I love the color - these are close to what we call "circulation cameos."

The '22 feature you mention is definitely a die break (assuming it's raised, as fredd saidd). Peace dollars were notorious for dies fracturing in the general area of the Y and from the back of the hair.

Cool! And nice pics! I think the coins went to the right heir - hopefully you'll continue to enjoy and take care of them. =)

Thanks, I plan on it. They are going to go into Air-Tites and into my coin shelves when I get them finished. I plan on marking their Air-Tites on the rim with a scribe his initials to keep track of them.

Thanks everyone, I plan on building on it all as much as I can. I am in a position now finally where I can afford to do so and my two boys are at that age of interest as well. I just went out today and bought all the materials to build a large cabinet to house everything in. 18 felt lined trays at 3' x 1.5' each should provide plenty of room for growth for now. I even have two drawers planned out, one for my prestige proof sets and other special mint sets and another to hold proof boxes and COA's in along with my small but growing numismatic library. My boys will love helping build that as well as filling it.

3*1.5 trays will have to be pretty substantial not to bow in the middle, then whatever supports them has to be pretty solid, too. Oddly enough, with no grain, plywood might be best.

I am building the frame of each tray/drawer out of 1x2" and using 1/8" hardboard for the bottom held in place by a groove joint. Inside demensions are about 35"x15" so it should be sturdy enough for the weight it will be carrying. If not I can always shoot a runner down the center. I am facing the drawers with 1/4" oak ply.
