Really nice FB small S Opne. That's should worth a few $$$ in retail value!

Here's the 17-D I pick up a few weeks back to replace the one I sold when I noticed I didn't have one to post.
Shooting through slab with bad lighting.

My micro-S is only in F-VF condition, haven't really like what I have seen to replace the one I got now, looking for one that's at least AU-58 FB.

I be filing my taxes next week or so, and if the return is good or my payment isn't too much, I will pick that one up to complete it along with all the other $20K upgrades. or I am waiting until Moe to pick up that $60K coin he wanted.

It is kinda tough in FB. My slabbed one is an MS66 non-FB. It's a pretty purple color and it was a good price, so I decided to make that compromise rather than going with a lower grade.

sorry, I would post the others but it's so time consuming!

macmercury, can you give me a ballpark on how much you personally think it's worth? I plan on selling my collection (yeah, all my coins) later this year to help pay for college.

I bought the raw micro when I was in 6th grade for $150. is it still worth that much?

thanks for all the compliments

Opne,

Your eMail is not set up, so I don't know whether you want me to quote it online or privately, and what are the rest of you mercury coin conditions?

?Should a Mercury dime collector wait and get a higher grade coin or just take the G or VG coins when they can get them? I was offered an entire set of Mercury dimes but they were in just good condition mostly. I don't want coins that are severely worn.

Some people like to do upgrades, others prefer to buy the best coin they can the first time and be done. You need to determine which type you are. There is no wrong answer here.

I think I missed the chance to buy the set of lower grade Mercury dimes. If the boss of the LCS had been there I would have bought them if they price had been reasonable. Then I would probably have upgraded. The thing about upgrading is you take a beating on the coin you are replacing in my experience. I upgraded an 1916-S LWH with a better one. I only got about half of what I paid for the original coin when I used it as a trade on the better coin. This is usually what seems to happen unless you sell it on ebay or are a dealer yourself. In this market when you sell an coin that is not really exceptional you may take a beating. This is not a seller's market, but it is a buyer's market IMO.
I bet you could buy any common LWH from the 1940's and 30's for $10-$12.
