I would say quarters first, lots of different releases in the past 12 years and for those who like older coins you can still get a silver coin for an affordable price. I agree with Darryldarryl no one likes dimes..... unless they have very good eye sight  |

Wouldn't turn away from any coin penny through twoonie and SML but main focus in coins is dollars silver, nickel, loonie and commerative

If we're talking about "coins", then
=> QUARTERS!
then 50 cent pieces
then silver dollars (they only start in 1935, so although they are big-n-cool, they aren't very old ... no Vicky's)
Ummm, and then I'll clump-together => "the rest" => pennies, nickels and dimes are obviously still valuable and awesome, but other than collecting them via complete proof sets, I haven't really concentarted on these individual coins
NOTE => but "Paper-Money" is my true poison!

Wow, you're correct => but theoretically, I guess the smart thing to do would be to hunt dimes, because at this moment nobody else wants them! (there are probably some good dime-deals out there at the moment)

I started a Canadian collection and I voted for the penny but I'm really digging those dimes with the schooner "Bluenose" on the reverse. What a great idea for a coin! I would like to see other famous ships depicted on coins. That would be cool and it certainly beats looking at dead presidents all the time!
The reverse on the 50 cent coin is truly amazing with all that intricate detail. Stunning!

I am a World collector, so if it is Canadian, it is by type for me.
I have a set of large silver dollars and a complete set of nickel nickels up to 1967, including a tombac beaver in Unc. Slowly getting together a nice set of silver 50 cents.
In fact my Canadian by type is more complete than my Australian by type, but that's just the way it happens to be turning out.

Just my 2 cents based on coins I've sold: Quarters - sell more of these then any other denomination combined. Fifty Cent - second best seller and brings the highest premium above face value. Pennies - I don't have any luck selling these at FV but do well with selling rolls. Dimes & nickels unless they are from specimen or uncirculated sets, can't give them away. Loonies & Toonies - the special issue ones but the circulated ones don't sell. My problem is, I'm like Barry on Storage Wars, I pretty much keep anything I come across for my personal collection (which includes everything) unless I already have way to many and need to sell off the extras to buy more for me  |

My main collection is pennies 6 complete sets from 1920 to present missing only 1936 dot (can't live in a penny so never gonna get it unless I find it lol) 1954 and 1955 nsf. Just started on dimes found 4 silver ones in 1st box :)

I voted quarters since I really think that they are affordable and have scarce issues. But in all fairness, dimes is where I spend my money.

One cent coins was my first love. I have two complete sets of Canada one cent coins from 1858 to present including all varieties. I am working on 2 more sets. I hope to have 4 complete sets someday to leave my grand kids. I had 2 grandchildren so 2 sets. Then, the third came along .... there isn't any talk of a forth grand kid, but I am preparing a forth set just in case.

By the way, for my personal collections, I am trying to get one example of all silver coins issued in Canada for circulation. I am about 95% complete.
