I first sorted every quarter by year. I then went back and broke down each year into the mint marks. Then I looked at each coin and kept the best two of each set. I did this because I wanted to fill the new Dansco Washington and Statehood Quarters books that I purchased and I also wanted to upgrade my old Whitman album with some nicer coins. This was an exhausting process, but I am happy I spent the time as I should not have to go back again and upgrade 90% of these coins in the future.

I found it interesting that I only ended up missing 4 coins from the entire 1965-2008 P and D series. A couple of the single and double coins that I did acquire will not be acceptable for my books, but for the most part I was able to complete my set in one box.

I enjoyed this enough where I might do it again in a few months, but I will only sort the statehood and newer quarters the next time around and I do not plan on keeping detailed records.

I did the exact same thing, took me 2 boxes to get good enough coins, still need a better west virginia d, and either illionos or indiana d, also need a d north marina island, then those are set, and some state park, no yellowstone huh?

Best way to collect those quarters is the way your doing it. Continue buying them in bulk and eventually you'll have them all or close to that. It is rather silly for people to run out and buy those from dealers as soon as they come out since eventually all will pop up in change or close to that. And don't forget that Whitman also makes Albums for those. Same with Littleton, Intercept shield, etc. If not interested in an expensive Album, first check around for the best prices on any brand. Unless you are one of those Dansco people.

The last box I did I ran accross all but 2 of the territories, and a few of the ATB. Not sure on the states, but have been tempted to do what you are doing. I would think the first few years would be difficult to find in AU.

jbuck, let me suggest an album. We have 5 of these and I LOVE them. The Lighthouse at the bottom of the page. http://www.jpscorner.com/national-p...nerstone.htm

I just did my first box of quarters. Was just searching for silver. I edge search too so I didn't really open them until I dumped them. But I was able to edge search about 12 ATB Quarters. If I looked through the box, I wonder how many more there were..

Well, it took me over a week to sort and tabulate my box of quarters as real life got in the way. So, finally, here are my results.
Very nice!

Thank you, but I intend to buy a Dansco for them. I have just not done it yet.

That is awesome that you found that many in a single box. Good luck on finding the rest. I still haven't found any 2011 quarters yet, but I only search a few rolls every few months.

That's funny, so did I. I settled in the 8146; it's nice how it's one year per page, one design per row, with the blurb for each park. I figured I'm already chopping up mint sets for other denominations, I might as well have a nice place to put the quarters... And I finally have an excuse to break up those silver proof sets... And it's only $14.95 per year to add on the clad quarter sets... And I only have to go back one year to get the brilliant finish 2010 quarters I don't have yet...

Of course, that means I need to move my Sacagaweas over to a circulation+proof album... And I'll have to break down and get a Presidential dollars album sometime... And I'll have to get the new circulation+proof cent and nickel albums when they finally come out... And I'll have to find something to do with the leftover silver proof dime and half dollar...

I think I would be more tempted to hoard up on the ATB, I don't know why but they're just a tough pull. The mintage figures are ridiculously low compared to the State Quarters.

They do seem to be flying under the radar. I mean, you heard EVERYBODY talking about collecting State Quarters, even people who would never collect any other kind of coin. Most of the public isn't even aware of the ATB Quarters.

It's a shame too (or perhaps a blessing?) because the designs are so much nicer than the State Quarters.

A domino effect!

I agree. I was really impressed with how that first filled page looks, compared to my Statehood Quarter album.

I normally roll search nickels but I recently converted a box of nickels into quarters using the vending machines at my work. In that $100 of quarters I found every year / design from 1965 to 2008 along with a couple of territory and ATB Quarters. I haven't sorted the years for mint marks yet.
