I've thought about sorting through nickels along with half dollars. Can anyone point me in the direction, or tell me, what key ones to look for? I don't want to look at each nickel for the smallest of errors. Just a general idea. I would appreciate it!

Thanks!

I find one every 64 rolls over the last year and a half.

I usually average 1 per box. However, last year, I went through a stretch of 12 boxes without a single War Nickel.

1 in 8 rolls is a ridiculously great average.

That average is crazy. I've been skunked on my last 2 boxes. Nice to hear someone is having a good run.

About one per box. Pulled an ugly one this weekend.

Wow. You guys are way out of my league. I wish I had the time to search that many nickels. I have searched 44 rolls (not much, I know) and I have found 2 so far. I guess I am not doing too bad.

You're doing great, I'd figger closer to one per $100. Back in the 70s, I found as many as 25 in one roll.

If you find any 1944 without mintmark, those are the scarcest one.

When I was young and stupid (as opposed to being old and stupid), I'd go to the bank and get $30 or so in nickels, take them over to the counter to look thru, replace the ones I pulled, and swap them for others. I might go through $200 in a day.

Eventually they told me they'd sell or trade all I wanted, but I had to sort them at home.

I am a newbie so it's a small sample but I am at 7 silvers in 4.5 boxes. If I was finding one in every eight rolls you wouldn't find me searching much else.

I posted this on another topic a few minutes ago. If you go to a credit union, they might have a coin counter. if they do, their customers bring in massive amounts of horded coins and they dont have to roll them. Mine does. Ask then for a bag of nickels they are about to send to the federal reserve because they have excess coins. You are going to have better luck finding some War Nickels in there then rolled coins coming from the federal reserve back to the banks. trust me.

I have searched four or five bags of $500 face. Averaging 1.5 per bag as well.

I too have been finding them at a rate of 1 per box and never more than 2 in a box.
