I am going to pass on this one, I'm too cheap to gamble my hobby allowance away, I'll save it for specific coins I need.
It would be great fun to look through this hoard !

As opposed to walking away, I'd run away from this one.

My guess is 90% of these coins are worth far less than the slab fee.

It always amazes me at a coin show when I see coins in slabs that are about a $2 valued coin. As stated above, probably the coins you get would be worth less than the slabbing fees. And you get 3 of something you have no idea of what they are.
and again,

Probably most of them are from broken-up modern proof sets.

I think you would get coins all worth far less than the slabbing fee. Maybe a common silver Roosevelt dime and two extremely common non-silver modern coins worth only a few bucks each would be my guess. With all the auctions on ebay where it explicitly states what you are buying what attracts you to this. If they were valuable coins he would sell them individually. He's doing this to maximize profit, basically tricking people into buying worthless modern coins that he knows would bring next to nothing sold individually.

I personally hate ebay, too many scammers out there, especially when you see pictures like that without super specific detail. Either way, let us know what you do, there could be some cool finds in there if it's legit! :)
