As noted it is just a plated coin. But you never know what you'll find by looking so keep at it.

Welcome to the forum. It was a unusual coin that I had that brought me to this forum. You will find a lot of knowledge here.
Anyone have lincolncentguy's first couple of posts? :)

Upstate that is very true. I never understood why people get all upset when someone new has a question about something like that. Posts like that just serve to drive people away. Everyone on here was new to numismatics at some point and we should make it a point of honor to be the place they come to ask for advice and not be insulting about it.

I've often wondered if those coins sold with a "platinum" plating or Gold plating - were magnetic. I guess the Nickel plated ones are. Neat find though.

Quote: Check the weight to confirm, if it is around the normal weight of 3.1 grams then it has been plated. 2.5g, it's a zincoln.

I have a penny here somewhere (or did have) that I had on my desk for about a year and its a silver color also but it was copper color when I sat it there. I don't know what caused it but the copper coating has been eaten off of it and I am betting this is what happened here also

A picture would be a good start, but post it in a new thread of it's own not one that is six years old.
