Very nice. I like all the CC's from G - MS. Even made a possible new avatar but decided to stick with what I have. Anybody interested feel free to use it.

If it'll amuse you to know this, the second coin is a Top 100 VAM-11 - look at the eagle's right (viewer's left) wing at the bottom where it meets the leg. See the z-shaped die gouges?
The third one is a VAM-2A - note the die chip on the nostril - and isn't really known above MS63.

I am in love with all 1878 Morgans, I am not sure exactly why but it may have to do with it being the first year the design was minted. I noticed when I was filling the Dansco7070 album I either tried to go with the first year the design was minted or the last. I guess its a subconsious decision on my part but I do love any 1878 Morgan

Thanks for the VAM info, yeah that VAM-2A I have a feeling it would be MS-63 or higher except for the small scratches on the face. Hard for me to resist this year when I see a deal. What do you think the GSA might grade as?

I'd grade the GSA at 62 as well. What did the top Morgan grade at, 65? Beautiful coins

Quote: What did the top Morgan grade at, 65? MS details cleaned It doesn't have quite as much luster as the others so maybe it was dipped in something at some point?

Wow, I wasn't expecting that. It's too bad, that coin has great detail and very few contact marks.

Outstanding coins ... Many Thanks for sharing then with us. I admit to being a newbie to the Morgan dollar series ... but do enjoy the fine photos and am learning post-by-post. A few observations/comments ... My 2010 Red Book shows 2.2 Million 1878-CC minted ... that is a huge number ... wondering how many were melted/lost over the years? Quote: MS details cleaned

I see fine hairlines on the obverse portrait and fields ... look in particular below Ms. Liberty chin on the obverse ... might just be the photo. Great coins indeed. David
