southsav: You have gone above and beyond what I was hoping for.
You are no doubt justifiably pleased with these. Thankyou for the pics.

As an aside, Denver and SF stuck sterling silver florins, shillings sixpences and threepences for Australia during the same period, except for '45. They bear 'S' and 'D' mint marks. They make an attractive short set also. Philly didn't do Australian coins.

One of the true rarities in the Australian pre decimal series is an error: an Australian florin struck on a U.S. wartime nickel blank.

I like the "greasers" as much as I like the high grade ones, its something about that big mintmark that I have always liked.

I only have around 25 rolls of them but I am always trying to get more.

Silvertowne will sell you a bag for about $1000 under melt.

I think the circulated War Nickels look very drab and usually look worse than similar non-silver nickels. However, I am still thrilled to find one in circulation or in a roll. But I really like the high grade specimens. I don't buy slabbed ones, but if I find a really nice War Nickel for a decent price, I will buy it. Especially a high grade 1944-D. These seem to be hardest to find in high grades (for me anyway). Is anyone finding these with full steps? I have a couple that are close but not quite there.

Nickelsearcher is absolutely correct, I've got to give credit where credit is due. I believe it was after he first posted a link to his slideshow of War Nickels (posted here again), that pushed me to pursue this set. His GEMS are marvelous to view and over.

Thanks David!

If I had to guess why it is that I like War Nickels, I would have to say it's probably because they have silver in them.

To be honest.. I'm not really a big fan of the nickel. However I do enjoy my proof set !

A little humor once in awhile makes the world go 'round much better my friend ! ....

If you spend enough time on CCF, and get to know the folks here, you'll find that MANY of us have a sense of humor (ar at least an attempt at one !) that comes out in our replies fairly often, I wouldn't presume to speak for Carl, but his comments like that are intended to be "funny", not "sarcastic" or mean spirited.
And you'll discover that Carl is one of the most knowledgeable people on this forum too.
And he has more years of experience in collecting coins than ALL OF OUR AGES PUT TOGETHER ! ....

Hope that helps......

Well said eaglefoot. Even though we have never met I have a huge amount of respect for just carl. He has an endless amount of knowledge when it comes to coins!

And back to the point of this post, I really like the War Nickels and I buy them from time to time.

I like them in the high grades, but the ones I find in circulation are quite dirty, so I sell the ones I find. It is a small premium, but still a premium to be had.

That's great and all, but he does it all the time, and on top of that, didn't even give his input on this topic. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but it's hard to tell through typed words on the internet.
