I am new to Coin Roll Hunting and find lots of U.S. coins. I was wondering which coins are worth keeping in each denomination. Appreciate any tips and info, thanks. Received an email from a member on here, thanks.

Howdy all, finally got some MORE good results in my quest for the Silver... This week I got my boxes of halves latter in the day because of the honey -do list and taking out the Mrs into town... BUT, it was well worth the wait...This week, I got a total of (64) SILVER halves; of which (8) were 90% silver and (56) were 40% silver. Found some interesting coins... (2) Ben Franklin's, a 1949 & 1952. Found a 1987p, 2003p and 2008d all mint only releases for collectors. Also I have what I believe is a 1974 double die half in avg condition (off to the dealer for verification) and the (in)famous double reverse novelty half...(what a heart breaker...!!). So that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it...Thanks for lookin'

1974 D & 1995 P Double Die Half Dollars CONFIRMED Well it only took me to go threw around 7,900 halves in the last month of coin roll hunting to hit first major pay-dirt...besides the 91 silver halves found so far.... So we are looking for the good stuff and I put all 1974's aside for an 'extra' look-see and Brandon (future son in law) and I found this well circulated coin. Used a trusty 30x loop, but we weren't sure if it was the real deal. So since I'm working days, he took it over to the new local coin dealer in town who verified it and according to him in this condition it is still worth between $100-150. (Belated happy dance once I found out after coming home). The dealer confirmed it was a what appears to be a 1995 P double die also. They (I found 2 of these coins) and the are in EF40- AU50 grade and in his own words, "I might be sitting on a goldmine." So its off to find a copy of the Cherry-pickers Guide to further research these coins also. ...Thanks for lookin'

I never did this before I started with this forum. In fact I didn't know it existed. Now every time I stop at the bank I buy a roll or two of pennies, nickels or dimes. Today I bought a couple of rolls of circulated Lincoln cents. Found a couple of 1960's and a 1959, but nothing special. Since I'm new at this I don't expect to hit the jackpot right away, but if I keep up with it I'm sure it will happen sometime. (I HOPE it will happen sometime!)

Yeah, the key to roll hunting is quantity since you don't know quality in advance. I usually go through 2,000 halves a week.

Has anyone had a problem with ordering fed boxes and then when you get them, they have been opened and sealed back up with clear tape on the end? I just got a box like that. All the rolls look like the ones I have been getting, but no silver is showing on the ends of any of the rolls. Is it possible to request sealed boxes and reject any boxes that have been opened and re-sealed without pissing the bank off.

probably be easier just to take it to the dump bank and have the other bank get you a new one with the $100 bills you got from the dump bank.

I decided to search the box I got Friday that had been opened. Only found 1-1942 Walker and 1-1968 JFK, so it was not a complete loss. I have 2 boxes ordered for next week.

I have only seen silver on the ends of three rolls I have searched, and I average 2 boxes a week for the last 9 months now.

I do! I usually get a box or two of cents a week. The thing that I really like about coin roll hunting is that it is 100% FREE.

well, my experience is its 99.99% free since once in a while, one of the rolls is either missing a coin or the counter misses a coin. Still, its like playing the lottery and you get a refund on all non-winning tickets :)

I've seen a few people talk about coin sorting machines that sort copper pennies from zinc. Is there such a machine that would sort silver from clad in halves? Such a machine almost seems too good to be true, but if there's one out there I'd entertain the idea of purchasing one. What have you guys seen or know about this?

I have thought about making one, but there are some problems. 1) It might not catch 40% silvers as the weight is quite close to clad 2) You would miss out on 1987, 2002+ and proof coins. 3) It would likely be expensive.
So I never built one.

I went through a box of cents today. I was surprised to get 10 wheat cents from the 1950s and 2 Canadian George VI cents all in the same roll.
