Soon enough people will start dumping the rolls of them that they've been hoarding. Then too, so many of the Unc Sets will be accidently spent similar to how Proofs get into change. Then in a few years, all the hipe about those will fade and the prices will do the same. Already the latest Red Book lists all of them as $0.30 each in MS-65. And if your trying to sell one, a lot less.

I have a whole bunch of rolls, only cost me $0.50/roll, so I don't really care that much. But I think the highest prices have already been realized with a steady decline for the next many years.

Yep, I agree with that assessment.
Still, 8 rolls (one for each mint and variety) would only set you back $4 (face). I'm deciding if I'll keep my circulation finds or dump them and just shop for some reasonably priced UNC rolls.

Quote: Still, 8 rolls (one for each mint and variety) would only set you back $4 (face). True, but of course I have 50 rolls. I guess I'm a hopeless romantic.

if romantic = hoarder, then I agree. Just kidding - I'm definitely that way too.

I'm wondering if I could put together a few rolls and throw them on ebay for 75 cents each. Be upfront about the fact that they're culled from a change drawer but that I ditch anything that's in shoddy condition, and see what happens. . . . correction, "if I could put together a few rolls and sell them on ebay." That's the operative word, ne?

I found a P Formative the other day in my wife's tips (she is a waitress)in Bright UNC condition except it is starting to show signs of those zinc spots. What can be done to prevent these spots from getting worse if anything? If I get UNC rolls of these coins how should I store them to prevent the spots from forming?

ninamason, why would you bother selling 50 cents worth of, uh...cents... for 75 cents? 25 cent profit per roll is no way to get rich quick. Unless you could do it thousands of times and your shipping fees negate the ebay fees. Even then, doesn't seem worth it to me.

To get them out of my house! LOL.
No, actually, because I'd start them at 75 and hope they went up. It's just a thought I'm floating around; I'd have to go through them first, and before I even consider that I want to have a full roll of Capitols for myself. I'm only about 2/3 there.

The thickness of the roll would mandate 1st Class package rates which would be $2.29/roll without delivery confirmation. (and that's not including the packaging material costs)
So you would have to charge way more for the shipping than the product....and do you think there is someone out there that will pay over $3/roll for common change?
Sounds like CoinStar would be your best bet....

I have been roll searching looking for copper and so far I've searched over 70 boxes and have found approximately 500 2009 pennies with the presidential years being the least found of the 4 coins.
I'm setting every 2009 I come accross. Like some posters have said I agree that soon people will start dumping their hoardings and they will be more prevelant. However, they have the lowest mintage in total since the late 50's so I do feel that they may be a semi=key date and as such they are worth saving.

I try to get a roll of bu of every year and mm. Some may call it hoarding but I see it as adding to my collection that someday I can hand down to my kids and then they to their kids. Just think if one of your grandparents had done the same with wheats from the start. I've never really thought about selling my cents for a profit. The 2009 satin finish bronze sets are very hard to come buy around where I live. I've been trying to find one, my local coin shop said they had 1 a few years back and sold for 180.00$. I told them to keep an eye out for another and call me. As far as 2009 cents in circulation at least in my area they are all but gone. I may find one in bad shape in every box of rolls I search. My girlfriend is a pharmacy cashier and I've got her into searching her change at work and she finds more wheat cents then 2009 cents a week.

I find a decent amount in what I'd call "decent" shape--no spots or very light spots, no gum or hard candy sticking to them (you'd be shocked what I get in change), etc. Most weeks I'll bring home 10-20 of them, and, depending on whether we're near the top or bottom of the box we're currently working on, 5-30 wheats.
I don't really find any BU, but most of the ones I find are probably AU. I should probably just send them back into the wild, but given the shape some of the change I handle comes into, I feel bad doing that--the next time I see the coin it'll probably be covered in crap or bent in half.

I go through boxes of pennies and I've been getting 3-4 a roll, about a wheat every 2 rolls and after going through about 5 boxes of 2,500 pennies I found a 1907 Indian Head penny, in realy good condition.
