real: 1,3,5 fake: 2,4,6 i remember reading an article about fake centenary florins and showed you how to tell them apart they were the lettering were aligned between beads, detail behind the kings head and the one I remember most being the detail on the rider's hand on the horse the fake will look like a blob while the real one will be detailed showing fingers although these indicators become harder to define as the coin becomes more worn particularly in 2 and 6 but on higher grade coins it is much easier to pick out these differences  |

What a lovely thread I just found -too late to contribute my opinion. Anyway, who am I to argue with Walter. I would dearly like one of these coins -but, buy one one on ebay?- no way; more have been sold there in last 5 years than were ever made. (Only slight exaggeration.) And, don't some sellers have an awful lot of them! cheers, Jeff |

It is unusual to see these coins so worn considering they were sold for 3/- each, people tended to hoard them. Nevertheless it looks like real circulation (note the numerous minor surface marks in the exposed regions), that being said I haven't actually compared the detail to an authentic coin which would need to be done to confirm its authenticity (circulation marks can be easily faked).

Yeah,no hand on horse but hard to see with scan blurred(deliberately?).

The fake where the most obvious giveaway is no detail to the hand on the horse has been around for several years on ebay,my worry is the more modern ones. |
