Generally when silver is moving up, it will draw about 10 bucks average higher price then it cost normally in a shop an such (often tax brings that back to a dead even equal price), as to cover the 14% fees for ebay an pay-pal....

Because Silver Dollars are Numismatic items that are 100 years old. Silver Eagles and the such minted recently are just Bullion and have no value whatsoever other than Spot Price unless you are fooled into thinking otherwise!

Sadly, the market prices on ebay are a little different than those on other ecommerce sites that charge fewer fees. Sellers on ebay are bombarded with ebay Fees, Paypal Fees which can accrue to be around 12%-13%. Thus, prices NATURALLY have to have higher to satisfy those fees or premiums I should say. I hope that helps.

ebay prices are higher because you are competing against a world market of shoppers for one individual item. The fun of ebay is shopping for rare coins that would appealing for your collection. For common ASE or ATB buying, visit the local coin shop.

Unless one is describing BINs, with auctions starting at .99, no one knows at what price the auction will end so it isn't about charging more to cover fees. I've heard people say, and I agree, that ebay is where one finds a coin's true market value on a global scale. It's probably the only place I could find the rare proofs I collect and I'm very happy to be a regular buyer of them. Of course, being a seller on ebay wouldn't be so enjoyable, unless one is selling large amounts of PMs.

I was attempting to be a little more circumspect and judicious with my answer, but now that the cat's out of the bag, the comment about ebay was an off-the-wall sort of thing to say, and that's putting it mildly. Oh well. To each his own.

yea, I totally agree! imagine another planet as the internet, ebay already has and conquered 90% of its land with iron gates, while the others split up the reminding 10% (overstock, eCrater), I'm unsure about Amazon though.

Try looking at junk silver coins, the premiums they get from the "Prepper" crowd is unbelievable.

I think people like Hawk have the right idea. Buy at the local coin shop and sell on ebay and make a nice little profit. Invest in a little more silver with the proceeds. Rinse and repeat. I've certainly considered doing that myself.

Yeah I am same thoughts on ebay, sure the fees stink but they provide a service just like any auction house who guess what charges fees to use their services, just is what it is.... Like Scubu an T said.....$11,652,000,000 does not lie an that is billions with a B an not millions with an M, to each their own as always.....

Hey thanks T, just shipped the last 25.5 bar to a nice fellow up Rhode island way, an the 2 oz. to Canada, an total shipping cost with delivery confirmation on the big bar an the 2 oz bar to Canada was only 12.10 total....
I have shipped much lately, but with small boxes an bubble wrap envelopes an a added piece of bubble wrapping around the item, I have gotten most of it to buyers an not been a huge pain. I have only spent around fifty on shipping on this recent batch, again about 2 dozen items or so sold about 4 days apart....
Did I get rich, far from but got some new solid pieces I figure in the hard to find 10 an 20 oz ox bar Engelhard, an a quarter oz of platinum an gold, as well as another local good buy on a 6.6 Academy bar, an will add more when cash allows....
All paid up rent all bills an coin Pm costs, platinum coin an 6.6 bar in house, Englehards should be here tom according to tracking info, a gold coin not far behind....
