Nice close-up on the head detail...I would concur on the FH designation...still sticking with MS63 though. Really nice (unofficial Type III) recessed date!

MS62FH
Could go a lot higher but I'd need much higher resolution photos to be sure.

Thanks again to all for the follow up on the FH designation... here it is: My own opinion before I posted this thread (after inspecting the coin in-hand) was MS63 FH too. I understand the pictures aren't the best but at least no one said MS61 or MS60 so I'm happy . I got the coin for $240 and I'm very pleased with the eye appeal ... solid luster and no heavy marks/hairlines. I'm aware of the requirements for a FH designation but what I wasn't sure of is what actually constitutes an "ear hole". Does it need to be visible to the naked eye, and/or be of a certain size? Neither PCGS nor NGC comment on that. Fortunately I can see the ear hole on this coin without magnification (looking at it closely in-hand that is), but I was still curious about this for future reference. Also what do you guys think - what counts as an ear hole if it were going into your personal collection? Is it acceptable if it is only visible under say 10x or 15x magnification?

Looks better than 62, but I do see a tiny rim cut on the obverse at 2:30. Maybe that was enough to knock the grade down a point (or 2).

I agree that it looks nicer than a 62.

NGC value of $300, nice buy! I am debating on whether or not to get a (unofficial Type III) recessed date for my slabbed 7070.

Beautiful coin even as a 62. I think one possible reason that this coin graded a 62 may have been some the scuff marks that I see under the eagle. I have a SLQ that has some of those same scuff marks under the eagle but the rest of the coin doesn't have too much going on with it. It was graded MS-62 by NGC.

How do you all feel about the rim?
In addition to the rim mark mentioned, there's a small portion of the outer wire rim that is flattened a bit (look closely just above the 2:30 position). Neither of these touch/affect the reeding on the side, nor the design along the inside of the rim.

I did not notice the 2:30 rim...until others mentioned it. Does not bother me at all!

The only thing that bothers me about that coin is it is not in my collection!

ME too! Super coin! I'd always take a FH SLQ over one in a higher grade, within a point that is.
