I think these coins are stamped obverse/reverse, baged in the ton bags, then moved to another process line where the coins are dumped face up or down on the conveyor line , then ran through a set of round stamping wheels. I have looked at several rolls and on many coins the edge lettering is up or down, even rolled around so it doesn't line up every time coins are stacked. I doubt these will be called errors or varieties. I do think some could slip though the edge stamping process with out the edge lettering. That I think could be legitimate.

The auction reads:

This coin was handled only to photograph. I will be keeping the coin used for the photo. The winner will receive an identical coin that went right from the roll to a plastic coin bag.

Does this mean he has lots more with no edge letters or does this mean you get a coin from the roll it came from ?

I would think he has a roll of them. You could also clamp and buff a roll at a time. BIRD OUT

The weight of the coin will be the key to fakes. Stamping/not stamping the sides will not change the weight. Removing metal will.

MEasuring diameter could detect if the edges were buffed.

First-Major-President-Error!!

Sure looks like there's lettering on there to me. I see unum plain as the pluribus on his face.

Hi Everyone! I'm fairly new here, but have to throw in my Two Cents (sorry). I have four 2007 GW Presidential dollars w/out edge incused inscription currently listed on ebay. Originally, I had six, but apparently sold two for $50.00 each Buy it now; Was supposed to be $500.00. I guess that's what happens when you list in the early AM!! goosegoodman is also my ebay seller's name.

So glad that he only handled the coin for the photograph since he's putting big, old fingerprints on both surfaces.

Well, I finally found an ebay auction from someone who truthfully describes the dollar edge lettering facing up or down- it is a variety, not an error

6 hrs to go and bid is $500...

If goosegoodman has/had 6, sounds like this may be a common error.
