Quote:... it likely fell into one of these three categories: -- The listing doesn't follow ebay guidelines. -- The item isn't allowed on ebay or can only be listed under certain conditions. -- The listing contains pictures or words that may have violated copyright or trademark rights. Or, all three. :)

This is a victory, but a small one.
Lurking in the dark are the true fakes, the ones YOU can't tell the difference. Missing "50 cents", "Fiji" were dead giveaways.
Faking NCLT is a surprising phenomenon. Much more difficult than replicating older silver circulation coins I would think.........

From the item description: Quote: Coin has no face value but is otherwise identical to the Canadian 50 cents piece. This implies that it is not the real coin. Still pretty slimey though.

Even if it was allowed by ebay, which it is not for replicas of Canadian coins, the OBJECT must clearly be marked that it is a copy or replica, not just the listing. These guys should get a nice rap on the door from the RCMP.

It is kind of scary that they can make an identical replica of this type of coloured plated steel coin. You would think this design is hard to replicate.

The sad thing is there is nothing that can really be legally done about this. They are not counterfeiting our currency, and the copyright laws apply to their own country, so the RCM is out of luck. The only thing that can really be done is exposing them on ebay and shutting them down. Now these stupid things are going to be circulating amongst collectors in our country and being resold on ebay, Arrghgh! Fake crap forever!

But it is PURE 9999999999 (plated) SILVER !
Even the real ones barely sell for that much money.
Amazing.

Saw the kijiji ad yesterday in the Ottawa section too.
If you reverse lookup the phone number, you'll get his name, company name, and even street address in Woodbridge ON.
BTW he has upped the ante and added gold plating to the 'coin'.
The ad describes it as ".999 PURE SILVER/GOLD PLATED TITANIC 2012 COMMEMORATIVE COINS"

I think someone should take some action. Selling counterfeit coin is illegal. Just like using counterfeit money. This is very serious issue. Wonder why no one report this issue to the police.

Pop Coin Technically, this creation can be considered a Fantasy coin. There are obvious differences between that and the real coin - no face value, different effigy for instance that the manufacturer omitted not to get into some REAL trouble. The case may be different also, no COA, etc. The intent of the seller however was clearly to fool the buyers in thinking they were buying the real thing (or a mule). That's the problem. The old adage... Buyer beware.
