A bit like some of the spurious practices used in the real estate auction market.

Sometimes, these practices can have counter productive results for the seller, in which I would consider to be a very satisfying result, IF the seller is doing this.

Pity, It looks to be a very nice coin.

That's nothing, he has 152 bids on a 3 cent piece.

He probably thinks he can discourage additional bids by implying each successive bid is $1 more, but he could be bidding 1 cent more each time and ultimately lose to a snipe placed days ago.

I gotta remember to check when it's over.

I suspect that a lot of sellers do that to make the item look more popular and get people to bid more

Guys I don't follow. Are you trying to say the same person is entering $85 repeatedly and ebay is counting each time he does that as a new bid? Why would they count redundant bids though?

Or what is it?

Donkrx thats exactly what happened for the last 40 or so bid and that person had bid probably 80 times total. Not sure why it keeps getting counted though to be honest

Yeah, they need to fix that then. Not hard I would think.

Nope, not exactly what happened. The bidder bids a few cents more each time which raises his proxy bid. The bid amounts that show on that list are not the actual bid amount, they are the current winning bid. Bidders do this to scare away other bidders, it gives the illusion of a bidding war.

ebay needs to stop counting them as bids unless there is another bidder in between, especially since it's costing them money.

I was watching this coin and I almost emailed him to say that the coin has been cleaned the cloth scratches are very evident if you blow the picture up .. he has tried to angle the coin so you cannot see them ..

Dooly I think the area you are indicating are showing planchet striations not hairlines from wiping. (Although in that case I would expect them to be running in different directions on the two sides. The way these are running the reverse die would need to be rotated 180 degrees.)

The auction ended with 166 bids, and with Member k***t placing quite a few bids at 2 cents over the current high bid, it's no wonder why there were so many bids...

Interesting .. there looks to be some attempt at spot removal at these lightened areas and rubbed in one direction .. seen it done before like this when a chemical has been used in the treatment
