I would take the 95-O proof alone and be happy ;)

Quote: I see a lot in there labeled improperly cleaned. Is that still worth the price? An 1895 in PR62 is worth well over $30k alone.

Ahh. Yes, just did a little research. One of those sold before for over $100k. That's just crazy.

It's not an 1895-O. It's a Philadelphia coin, and there are no business strikes for that year, only Proofs from that mint. Only 880 were struck. It is the absolute stopper to a "complete" Morgan set.

SsuperDdave, ah ok. Didn't catch that. Thought it was an "O" for some reason. That's cool. Can't believe $1 can be worth so much.

Up to $36,000 in pre-bids - this is better than cable!

Final bid by an on site bidder was $60,000. The bidding stalled at $36,000 and I nearly had a heart attack thinking someone not from this forum would get this stash for that. What fun!

The one coin that is carrying the set and the ending price is the 1895 Proof. I took a quick look and it looks like the majority of rare dates are detailed. Still a nice set though, and definitely worth it just to get the 1895 Proof.

So now that it is over what is the breakdown value of the collection. I've seen the value of one coin mentioned. What about the others?

The '89-CC, probably $2000. The 1893-S approaches $10k. Stuff gets cheaper very quickly once those are accounted for; I don't really think $60k was a reasonable price for the lot. Especially considering it's gonna cost the buyer closer to $74k after the Buyer's Premium and sales tax. He wouldn't make that back even if he parted it all out. If I were going to make a wholesale offer on this lot, I'd be around $40k or a little more.

Conversation with hubby last night:
Me: "You know dear, I almost bid $37,000 thinking we could flip that lot"
Awesome Hubby: "Not a problem, you could have paid for it from my life insurance payout once I got the bill!"
Me: "Hmmmmm.....good to know" (Just Kidding - I did not say that!)

With a buyers premium of 18% and a final sales price of $60,000 that alone tacks on another $10,800 which brings the price up up $70,800. And they are talking about a 5% sales tax so if you live in the wrong state you could see another $3,000 in sales tax. People forget about that 18% buyers premium from these auction houses! My Two Cents worth edgman

Buyers Premimum sucks at this sight. I thought HA was raping me at 14% but it only took two days to get my coin.
