He's a younger soldier too I'm 34 he's like 25 and the silver coins where all loose in a tin with other coins. He wasn't a serious collector or he wouldn't have sold them that cheap and would have kept them in 2x2s lol. He knows I'll take care of them so he didn't mind giving me a serious discount

Daniels great pick up none the less and at least they have a good home and he got some money for some stuff he didnt really want anyway. Just found it humorous to hear someone say they were selling because they were getting to old to collect.

Wonder what he would say if he went to a coin show. Most there could be his grandfather.

Daniels,
I'm semi retired in civilian life. I've got 32 years in the Army,Reserve and now Guard. 4 years ago I re-classed and spent most of a year at FT Gordon. Now my house is paid for, I have no bills; no loans; nada.
So I decided that I would take half my Army pay and buy coins, comics, and guns....lol. When I got my first check I was sure there was some kinda mistake. I got on Mypay so fast it made my head spin! Turns out BAH for the SF Bay area in Ca was around 2k a month...and that is what I used to buy coins with for a year! I was actually disappointed when my unit got cut from the deployment list last year.
You know when you are a kid deploying is exciting. When you have a family deploying is scary as heck. When your kids are grown up and you are single again deploying goes back to being an adventure....a hot...sometimes miserable..often times boring; but still an adventure!

Good Luck on the deployment. It sucks with the kids. I always hated that. And your parents are not much better either. Heck my Mom is in her 70s and sent her Dad, and Husband, Brothers and Son to War more than once and still cried on me the last time I told her I was deploying...and it was like my 4th deployment!
Do what I do, take that extra money and make up list of things you can buy with it. I mean your regular pay becomes tax free for a year, so there is extra money for the family.
Take one of your extra pay's like family sep (around $200? now isn't it?), or imminent fire, or hostile fire pay and buy yourself a goody each month. Trust me you need something to keep your spirits up too.Think about it. With two hundred dollars a month you could buy, except for the 09svdb, each key Linc cent by the time you get back. Or let it build for 4 months and get that nice 09svdb. Now is the time to do it. As one Soldier to another I find that maintaining a hobby while deployed is great on the mind. And nowadays we have lots of places set up with internet access. Or Satphones. Not like the old days when the only way to talk to someone was through snail mail. THAT SUCKED.
And trust me, when you get back you will/should have enough extra money to show the family a great time and take a great vacation with the leave you will accrue!
