why not just keep it for another 30-40 years to see what happens. If silver ever goes to $1000.00/ounce (the year 2200 with my luck) that guy is going to be so mad at himself for selling.

He already made a ton of money off the deal I would have sold too. Its more likely silver will end up settling back down at some point thant anything even if it did end up spiking again. But if silver gets to 1000 dollars an ounce guns and ammo will be more important lol

I couldn't imagine walking out of a pawn shop with $140,000.00 in my pocket. The comment you made about guns and ammo is exactly why I keep both at hand.

Could agree more. I keep both too and even if I was fully strapped I wouldnt want to be walking out with that much cash short of body guards escorting me outside to an armored car. You couldnt hide that much money if you possibly tried.

My LCS said they were approached about doing a show like this, but declined. I don't know if it was the same show.

Any particular reason why they said no? Seems like the free advertising and whatever theyd get paid for the show would have been good for business

I just hope the show doesn't portray coin collecting the same way American Diggers portrays metal detecting.

Should be interesting to see some of the profit margins generated as well as how fairly they approach the buy side, at least after the editing.

I watched about 10 minutes of American Diggers and then I changed the channel. I guess I went into it thinking they would have crazy and valuable finds.

Im going to take a guess that the margins we will see will not be their real margins so people dont feel they are being over charged. If I was them Id have a smaller margin for the on show sales to come off in a better light

Nat Geo has more class then Spike TV, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I would of waited a little while longer on that haul.
Cherry picked every coin first then a drive to the smelter
where I would of gotten 90% of spot minimum for it.

I just hope that this show doesn't create an unneeded coin craze. The market would crash soon after from new "collectors" and we wouldn't see those coins back on the market for years. That and there will be "experts" popping up overnight because they watched some show on National Geographic. I've been collecting since my teens and I humbly accept that I know nothing. There are people at flea markets that sell junk coins for double the retail price and at worse condition presently, and I can't imagine what will happen if the market gets inflated/blown-up with a mainstream population. If the show can concentrate on the enjoyment and history of coins, then it might do us some justice, but if the business aspect is overemphasized, then we can see the end of an enjoyable and relaxing hobby.

Libertad even if that happens its usually pretty short lived before people lose interest and move onto the next thing. If you had anything you wanted to sell that would be the time

I think that will be how the "free advertisement" thing would go. If collectors see they are really ripping people off you can bet they would lose calls instead of receiving more calls and that could be a great reason for some shop to decline

Shucks, This is a great idea. Lots to see and learn about, and this is to be on National Geographic Channel you say. Okay I am in at least for a little while, my best guess is that American coinage will be premiered before anything else...which is kind of sad in a way.

It should be interesting, my LCS has some real Characters coming in regularly. Hopefully the show will not creep too many people out.
