I usually get ASEs and bars as well depending on spot and my current $ per OZ average.

I chose "Country Specific 1oz (Maples, Eagles)" because here in Mexico any bank will buy a 1 oz Libertad from you at a publicly published price no questions asked...try doing that with a bar. (very low buy/sell spread too) You'd be hard pressed to have the same liquidity with any other form of silver in these parts.

Junk silver. Why pay a premium for .999 when you can get junk silver for spot?

90% Silver US coins are my favorite. That being said I agree with everyone above and have a little of everything.

Quote: I buy all four its good to diversify I could not agree with this more. Not only is this a great choice but it is what I am already doing! I suppose that if I was limited to a single one, it would be junk silver. It too is country specific and it is easily recognized as a known value. Not that every one out there knows about the silver content of pre-1965 US coins but many do and the rest would learn very quickly.

WOW!I'm a little surprised at the silver round votes. I mean 33 votes and only one vote was cast for the rounds.I thought more people collected them from the numbers of them I see on ebay.As for me I like the Bars or small poured loaves.I guess if I wanted the silver rounds I'd buy the 90% silver coins from yesteryear

@harrison: That's amazing, I had not known that! I'm not selling, though, hah! Have you heard of David Salinas Price? He advocates (in Mexico) for a standard silver .999 ounce (the Libertad) to circulate at a set daily price where it can never go lower than the last advertised price. I wonder how practical it would be in practise, but it's an idea against inflation.
For the poll: I say .999 silver bars. .900 is nice, but I love .925 and higher. .999 can be turned into .925 quite easily if needed. Country-specific rounds are nice but their whole point is to instill trust in the quality. Bars can actually be used in industry should there be a demand for it and not ruin the numismatic supply. I'm not even sure I'm making much sense here.

In this order:
1. Junk Silver 2. Country Specific 1oz (Maples, Eagles) 3. Silver Rounds 4. Silver Bars
One and Two are neck and neck.

One word: familiarity!
Believe it or not, not everyone has heard of eagles, maples, etc. "What the heck is a round?" "How do I know that that is not a block of lead that has been painted?"
But old silver coins, just about everyone will know them or know of a person who has/had them.
I base this assessment on a scenario where barter has become essential.
So I agree with hagbard on the order of preference.
