I think it's worth saving, alone for the fact someone thought it was valuable enough to sew to their clothing. I would not consider that hole typical PMD like most would. That hole is historically significant. Save the coin, it's a bargain. |

DO not save this piece a nice Fine is available for a touch over silver value. Holed coins are nothing but a damaged coin and when you go to resell you will get 80 to 90 per cent of melt from a reputable dealer.

That's cold, that coin is over a hundred years old, and only ~200,000 minted.
I guess if it's all about resale...then I can't argue with that. There are nicer coins for the silver value.
Sure the hole sucks, but what are you going to do. I don't see why the coin HAS to be destroyed.
There is more to history then numismatics. I would like to think that given enough time the coin would appreciate in value.
It would make an interesting piece of fractional bullion for a history buff.

Spend a little more and get one with out the hole
Sorry to say .. I will be putting this one back into the melt box.
I guess it could make the ones that are left worth a little more

FYI Bullion is measured by weight, not face value.
I agree you can do whatever you want, so get out there and destroy the thing for your own coin might go up 48 cents.
Clearly if you read my post I'm about not destroying the coin, I could care less if he buys it and agree that he can find better examples for the money.
