I'm fairly new to this forum (although not new to the Internet - I remember Bulletin Boards), just a few months now, and I notice and appreciate the civility. It's treat, as well as a learning experience, to browse here

It's my belief that this topic is more appropriate in the Main Forum.
It's also my belief that "please" and "thank you" are essential elements of society, and the failure to use them requires response with a taser.

SsuperDdave, this topic IS in the main forum. Perhaps it was moved.

I myself was also brought up to use Please & Thank You. These 3 simple words go along way and carry a lot of weight. I do notice most of the younger generations don't use these word or don't use them as much. I blame the parents for not instilling that in their children.

I think please and thank you are great for in person things, but its possible to be perfectly polite without using those specific words. For posting you can usually spot whose really asking for help and being appreciative of it and who seems to feel entitled to help and gets an angry tone if what they were asking isn't specifically addressed every time.
Personally I think it would get a little old reading that at the start and end of every post, but do feel that even with disagreements its possible to still keep it from being personal attacks. Just treating others with respect to me is more than just saying please and thank you.
For what its worth this board is light years beyond almost all other internet boards when it comes to respect and how posters are treated. Just go skim some yahoo posts and youll lose a lot of faith in people lol

Quote: who seems to feel entitled to help and gets an angry tone if what they were asking isn't specifically addressed every time in one of my earlier posts I had put up a coin, I think STNDLIBQ, and no one had commented for a day so I posed a "I guess I'll never post one of these again" and that slightly put someone's nose out of joint. I was being light hear-ted about the scenario but I can also see how it would ruffles someone who read that ...patience certainly is a virtue....

basebal21, You are SO right! The CCF forum is light years ahead of any other forum for politeness and civility. Plus, the efforts of the moderators and everyone else to maintain the "kid friendliness" of the forum deserves a medal! And I find that a number of younger collectors here DO say please and thank you. Unlike a few so-called adults who do not. And yes, a general tone of respect speaks volumes as well.

matt it really was shocking (in a good way) to see the difference of this board and many others.
Please forgive those you have become grumpy in their old age lol just kidding.
But definitely agree the mods do a great job of weeding out the bad apples pretty fast and looking out for other members

I think this is a non-issue, to be honest; seems like all the CCF posts I look at have the requisite etiquette, as would be expected with the type of folks in this hobby. Some other forums get a bad rap, too; I belong to several other types of forums, and they are mostly helpful and polite, except a movie review group I belong to, they're really rude!

Moi, grumpy? Oh I hope not! Playing in this wonderful sandbox keeps me young at heart. I may be opinionated, but so is everyone else. What bad apples? They disappear faster than they appear. Thanks to everyone's effort to report possible problems and the moderators who respond quickly, bad apples get squashed.

I personally think that if you are asking a question and someone answer a thank you is in order. I was raised to be polite in all spheres of life, not always easy but still.

Nothing wrong with saying thank you when a fellow collector takes the time to share what he has learned.
