Ditto to everything said above. Tanglables would be the only thing I'd touch, (wire etc) and even then, not necessarily with a view to profit making rather cost saving.

My wife and I stack food for this very reason. Any extra money people have should be put into some canned / dried / frozen food. Prices are heading higher, thanks in large part to the inflation that Uncle Ben says we don't have and now the mid-western drought that has decimated the US corn crop and done significant damage to soybeans, wheat, and perhaps other crops as well. The basics are especially good to have: flour, sugar, cooking oil, pasta, rice, beans, canned fruits and veggies, frozen meat, etc. It's great to have PMs but there are other things that can be really useful too, so don't forget about them.

Total waste.. sky high premiums. Copper is worth roughly $3 a pound and that's good, cleaned, brand new copper. Trust me, I know.

collect all the pre 1982 copper pennies you find, its like doubling your money, besides that, the premium you pay for copper bars are way too high. not much profit margin to gain by investing in physical copper is what I'm trying to say.

Thats the only copper worth it that you dont have lying around already. Especially if you penny roll hunt you can just put lots on ebay when they add up and have instant profit, wont get rich but every little bit helps

with basebal

I CRH cents so I just set aside any copper cents 1959-1982 (I weigh the 1982s) and once I get around $10 I put it up on ebay. Just sold $9 FV for $20 plus shipping yesterday. Helps fund more boxes to hunt lol

I would never consider hoarding large amounts of copper cents myself just because of space. Copper rounds and bars are absurdly over priced and even if there is one with a cool design I would rather have it in silver.

I recommend pure nickel coin hoarding. If you're a world coin collector or someone who buys in world coins by the pound and sort through them, well there are countless 99.9% Pure Nickel coins in every mix. A few examples are the modern France 1 Franc and 2 Franc Coins, also the Netherlands Guilder Coins can be quite heavy at 2-1/2 Guilders. Other countries that have pure nickel coins include Canada and Belgium.
The price of nickel is fairly cheap to acquire compared to the $22.00/lb that we've seen a few years ago. It is also a very important metal that is used in the creation of steel which creates armor and bullets for our military. If you feel that World War III is on its way, then nickel might just be the ideal metal for you. Remember how nickel outweighed the importance and value of silver during World War II when nickels got replaced with 35% Silver Nickels by the million. Well it's a very important metal that has never been advertised as heavily as silver, gold and copper... I already have 2lb of 99.9% World Coins that I acquired for less than $4 a pound and will certainly be adding more as I encounter them.

That's true about ww2, but not sure wed ever need to see nickle pulled like that again. Weapons technology pretty much assures the days of trench to trench fighting are over and we no longer have to send 100s of bombers (that chewed threw ammo with their gunners defending the planes) to make sure a couple targets get hit. Plus if it ever got to them needed nickel that bad I'd just hand my over.

Its all just a speculation game really. Any metal is a good investment at the right price. From a practicale stanpoint I'd guess few people have the necessary space to hoard the amounts of most metals necessary for the 50 cent to a dollar price shift to be worth it. That said if you can get any metal cheap like copper pennies and want to flip it I'm all for it.

But if these common everyday metals increased in price tenfold like silver did the havok it would cause on the economy and the price of every day goods would more than offset any profit. It could happen but personally I'm hoping we aren't headed down the path.

Copper is a base metal. Look at it this way copper is grouped with lead, nickle and zinc. At one time however the Great Copper Mountain in Sweden was called their national treasury and their currency was backed by copper.

Your certainly can invest in the many copper stocks in the market. However other than being unique I consider the so called copper bullion a poor investment. Hey the companies selling it are make a great return though.

I do deal in copper but not as a PM but as a salvage metal. I do pretty well recycling a lot of it each year. It takes some time and work but generally most of it I get for free.

Now with that said I do separate copper pennies, I figure what the heck may some day I can get a small return on something cheap. They are a pain in the back side to store though. But no I do not buy the so called copper bullion.

I tend to agree with everyone here saying that copper isn't really bullion, but if you notice the forum section we're in, it's called Precious Metals & Bullion - Gold, Silver, Copper, Platinum

Maybe Copper should be dropped? Replaced with Palladium? Hmmm...

Over the past 12 years copper has really not moved all that much. About 12 years ago it was 2.86, today it is 3.533 and the high if I remember right was around 4.505.

So I guess if you were rewiring your house at the high spot you would have considered it expensive.
