From a silver standpoint Id want the ASE, but like the look of a nice Morgan better |

VERY tough choice... more silver or more history? I have fewer Morgans so would probably go with the Morgan.  |

I have Eagles so a Morgan would be nice. Now if you ask which one I would buy the answer is likely to be different.

I voted ASE too early. I don't have a 1892-s Morgan, so I should have chosen that. |

It depends on the price. Which can I get closest to spot. I'm not picky on the coin just the price to buy it. I want my purchase price to be as close to the sell price as possible premium and selling price comes into play too.
If the Morgen is Brilliant UC I will sometimes pay more, at other time I may take a chance on a better date. However when it come to common circulated then it is all about price.
Of course the 1892s is worth far more than spot even in this condition.

Additional Info: $460,000... that is how much a 1892 Morgan silver dollar sold for at the Heritage auction in January of 2009 (stats from the Red Book) With just 1.8 million minted at the San Francisco mint this year, these are the rarest of the Morgans issued. I had to check on the price and if it was almost uncirculated it would cost me one once of gold. A extra fine would run about $230.
So of course if it was going to fall into my stocking I would take it.

I most always offer 20 on Morgans an Peace dollars, assuming most are just junk silver an I can sell on bay from 30 to 35 each roughly. Later figured out it was a key date, as I knew either the 92 or 93 was, depending on mint location.... Not that numismatics is not a most complicated animal all its own beyond bullion, but then you gotta consider the different mint locations like P, O, S, or D. Or of course the CC..... The better way to ask the question might be....Would you like 40 bucks or a C note, lol?
I want to find one of these in a AU-58 state or better. And who knows, I am in a spot where I see some cool coins come down the pike once or twice a week....

The Morgan hands down. Even a circulated, common date Morgan over an ASE. Your 1892-S is a better date Morgan. It has VF details and is worth $50 even if it has problems. |
