ebay auction starting at .99c just ended for a Engelhard 4oz.

Just like I said that 3500 amount is an arbitrary number, this one went for 2250...

if you took these to a store you would only get melt or less than melt. Only collectors would buy it. Sell it on ebay, take the money and buy normal bullion or gold that most everyone would give you a fair price

no matter how hard I'm attached to the coin if I haa an opportunity to flip it for a big gain I'd do it and I actually do it with some coins are get cheap.
With all these 4 oz bars, I'd list it, sell it, and went off to buy 1 oz gold and 100 oz of silver ... even if it were 10 ever minted. I don't see much value in this kind of bars. Rare old coins?! Yeah, but not brick of metal.
When both rise you'll be able to buy the bars for a less silver/gold oz's you were payed

very rarely will you ever hear me tell someone that likes something to sell it because if they enjoy collecting it if they can afford it then more power to them no matter what it costs. On this one I will not tell you what I would do but I will tell you how I see it. You can sell now and may get the highest price ever seen for them (if the serial numbers are that low and a few people want them for that reason) or you can hold onto them and interest bottoms out and you can sell them for spot or maybe a couple dollars over whatever spot is per ounce that day. When interest drops out on these chances of them ever reaching what they are now again is pretty slim. So either cash out now while they are hot or take the chance on them staying hot forever and cashing out later with the risk of only getting spot for the bars at a later date. Its basically your choice but I think it is clear what myself and most would do in this situation.

Edit: I just looked and saw this one in the low 200's and so far its up to $3,000.00+ with the reserve not met http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-oz-engelh...em35bfd2dd74 in my opinion setting a reserve that high is rather dumb as most people (including myself) try to avoid Reserve auctions like the plague anyway. I bet if there was no reserve on this bar it would already be over their reserve anyway because more people would see the opportunity to own it as they know the highest bidder will get it not being the highest bidder and still have a chance at not being able to purchase the bar. Allot of people will not even try in these types of cases

I would sell them. But then again I wouldn't pay over spot for them unless I knew I could flip them fast. I am one of those folks who doesn't get why people go nuts for hand poured. But I may ne in the minority. And I have paid some pretty hefty premiums to get my Britannias so different strokes for different folks.

I agree, I am also willing/happy to pay ( Sometimes exorbitant ) premiums on NCLT silver coins.
I could not justify to myself paying such a high premium on a lump of silver with a few stamped designs and numbers on it.
There is absolutely nothing artistic or unique about a bullion bar IMHO.
These are simply a fad that will die a natural death so dump em and walk away whistling before the buyers "wake up " and smell the roses on these

You all are ALL wasting your time he has made up his mind. My dad always said that you can't tell a stubborn human anything and he always follows that up with...."If your gonna be dumb, you'd better be tough" cause you are gonna need to be tough to make it in this world....

Charles Engelhard himself could come back from the grave and try and convince him to sell now or he would NEVER get close to that money again and he would come up with his own justification why that was inaccurate....

Seven plus grand you are passing on if they are low serial numbers as claimed and you got a couple hundred in them and that is just plain foolish....

May seem like I am being hard on you, but if I didn't care I would say nothing and we are all trying to keep you from making a monumental error.....
