Locally NORFED coins were used quite regularly. I moved into this area just a year or so before NORFED was shut down. I loved the beautiful designs they put on their coins. I never saw a gold NORFED until browsing on ebay one day. I knew since the silver ones were such beauties, I had to get one of the gold ones. Now, of course, I am kicking myself for not more avidly pursuing the gold 1 ounce NORFED proof. I wanted this and/or a gold buffalo (and got neither!). I only ever saw two of the NORFED 1 oz. coins there though. I should have snagged the one at BIN 1200.00 - but gold was only around 800 or so at the time and I though it too high. The gold went through the roof and, well... maybe some day!

Lighting for me too is the issue, they all seem to have a yellow look to them.

I use the white correct option on my graphics program to aid this.

Hey Earle, I'm wondering, if the liberty dollars circulated a lot, are there any in XF/VF or lower?

@1967CanadaPenny

I have only seen one a couple slightly worn ones. I have seen some with impaired luster though. We had a local supplier who had his own vending machine to dispense them and it was located at the indoor Farmer's Market. He kept having to refill the machine on a regular basis so there was a constant supply of shiny, "MS" pieces. I think a lot of people were keeping them for themselves also - as you can see, they are beautiful. However, I know they were even being spent in outlying areas as other area towns knew of Chambersburg's "silver barter coins." So there must have been more worn ones as the use spread.
