It's a gold 25 kurush, all right, but KM# 752, with "reshat" to right. NGC page. The regnal year on yours is on the obverse, below the toughra: "2". So your coin is dated 1327//2, which translates to AH 1328, or AD 1910. Unfortunately, given the circular damage pattern (most visible in the stars on the obverse), I'd say this one is ex-jewellery; it was once mounted in a bezel that damaged it.

Yeaa, I knew it was likely damaged from something like that.
I got it for melt, so it was an acceptable risk. Thanks for the info Sap!

The translation of the reverse is "Was struck in Constantinople" 1327.
Yes I'm serious that's what it says. This is a common inscription form. The upper part says "was struck in" and the bottom word is the mint name. In this case Constantinople.

"Now it's Istanbul not Constantinople, why did Constantinople get the works?"

Hmmm, size and weight are a bit too low, should be 15mm and about 0.6 ozt. Also, some details are wrong or too crude compared to other examples of this exact type and year. I would be suspicious of it based on the dimensions and appearance.

Hmmm. Krause lists the wieght as being 0.0532 which my scale puts it at 0.05.

And a 15mm coin that is 0.6 ounces? That's a fat coin.

Don't forget the density of its composition. (and you are missing a zero 0.06 not 0.6 oz)

Sorry I meant 0.06, not 0.6. But there are flaws on this coin that are just too major to ignore. Most notably, look at the ribbon at the bottom of the wreath on the date side of the coin. The stems are overlapped by the ribbon ends. On genuine coins it is the opposite, the ribbons are behind the stems. This is a counterfeiter's mistake.

Hmm I suppose its possible, do you have a good picture of a genuine example showing this?
Seems odd to counterfeit a piece worth about melt. Though it would make sense given its an ex jewelry piece. If it was made for jewelry I could see it being counterfeit.

Here's a good clear picture, click on it to enlarge it a bit: http://www.inumis.com/turquie/turqu...1205748.htmlYea it's a pretty common practice to make facsimiles of gold coins out of gold for jewelry purposes. Have seen it with European coins like the British sovereign too.

Yea. That is a very good representation of your point. Looking at it too, there are other areas that seem wrong. Still not sure though. Different Dies? Probably just jewelry counterfeit though.

Yep, seeing the two clear pictures side by side, I'd agree yours is most likely a jewellery copy. Middle-eastern jewellery copies are often made of fine gold that's near enough to the fineness of the genuine coins.
I mentioned earlier this coin was "ex-mount". Looks like it was made to go into that mount in the first place.
Still, it's worth melt.

So I went back to the dealer I bought it from. I explained the situation and he refunded it.
good thing too. He tested it with an XRF gun, came up 71% gold.
Thanks everyone for the help and input.
