It's very unusual for any ASE to be graded under 69. My guess is they saw a flaw and said "69". |

Nobody's perfect but PCGS and NGC are, in my experience, more accurate and more reliable than ICG and the later ANACS slabs. It isn't just marketing that makes them more respected (although I'll admit it may be a minor factor). As always you should buy the coin, not the slab. Astute buyers can take advantage of the price disparity between PCGS/NGC and ICG/ANACS and get some very nice coins in the latter's slab at a discount. I have some coins in old ANACS slab that would cross over easily at the same (maybe higher) grade at PCGS. |

Hi, I just want to share my experience with ANACS & PCGS. Just 2 weeks ago, I Crack 2 slab Philippine coins , 1 from ANACS MS63 and 1 from ICG MS64 and I submitted it to PCGS together with my other RAW coins. And last monday I just got my coins back. ICG MS64 coin cameback as PCGS MS64 same as before, but the ANACS MS63 coin was shocking, it came back as PCGS MS66 , I was shock !! but I'm very Happy hehehehe. So, what do you think about these 2 Grading company?   Below are the actual photo of the coins. |

I think a tell-all, behind the scenes, expose by a PCGS grader would be quite the eye-opening read.

In my Experience in Cracking coins,then sending them to PCGS, NGC, ANACS to see if the outcome grade are still the same, I CONCLUDE that this 3 Grading Company is not really consistent. So, when you buy graded coins, grade it by yourself and be sure you buy the coin inside not the PLASTIC.

I will agree with that 100% for all who have the ability to grade themselves but for those just starting out, they are at the mercy of the TPG's and have to start by looking at enough graded examples to get a feel of what is graded correctly and what isn't. In this case looking at pictures will not do as everyone's photography skills differ, you have to see them in hand to be able to really learn how to grade yourself and most of the time if you do not have a collector friend or a dealer nearby buying the graders opinion is all they have |

The fact that two individual coins came back with obvious flaws statistically belies the 'one offs' that happen with very precise human endeavors. Two coins, to two different people, delivered independently in the same time frame and both poorly worked indicates a serious quality control problem.
I am really enjoying these discussions and am learning a great deal.

Very true. This is where ebay can provide a great service imo. Even if you dont have the slightest idea how to grade or what to look for if you look at a bunch of the same coin on ebay or anywhere else really you can see some look better than others and either start figuring it out on your own or just keep buying the better looking ones |

It's been said a million times, but... Buy the coin, not the holder. If you want a (near) perfect looking ASE, pay the extra money for one in MS70 plastic. You're really splitting hairs complaining about an MS69 that could/should be in an MS68 holder. |

It's been said a million times, but it is WAY truer today than 10-25 years ago. Back in the old days, TPG's were more on the ball. Sometimes they were off, but rarely flagrantly. Now, you have a lot of profiteering, but the one to watch out for is NGC in my opinion. I still see PCGS coins graded fairly...maybe a little conservatively, but fairly on average. But that could easily change. Anyway, with the flagrant profiteering and people still not realizing what is going on, this is 100x as important. |
