That album dates from the early 60's, the spaces lined up with the varieties as listed in the Red Book, also published by Whitman. I remember getting those two type albums, small coins and large coins, and a brand new Red Book as a gift from one of my uncles for my birthday when I was about 10. It was really a fun challenge for a young child until I hit the wall and realized there are coins in there that were so far out of my price range that I could only dream about them.

That is an interesting way for them to tie products together.

I have the whitman small coin type folder which has the slot for the 1838-O Dime as well as Chain and Wreath and other extremely rare and hard to find coins...its great to try and fill that thing...

Yea I will probably never own a chain or wreath set unless it is poor condition, heck even a g4 chain set has a retail value of $7000 and a wreath cent at g4 is $2000. But I still want to try and put that set together, heck you could always put a counterfiet in there until you either get a real one or hit the lottery :)

basebal they do have blank pages, I plan on doing a commemorative modern half page so I don't have to an entire album for just 18 coins and adding it to my type set.

I like the blank page idea a lot for doing what you want. A blank album for sort of the random collections you want to do without doing a full album is a great way to add a few things here and there

I have mentioned before that I have custom album with six blank pages (two cents, two nickels, two dimes) that I use to hold my Indian Head cents, Buffalo nickels, and Mercury dimes. I also have another album with blank pages to hold the "ultra-modern" cent, nickel, and dime releases as my original Dansco albums have filled up.

Yea once your set is done the blank pages are the way to go to me that way you can have more examples or more coins that you love but didn't want to do an entire set of.

For Dansco to have all of the major types of Half Dimes they would need holes for the following varieties:
No Stars, Obverse 1837-38
Stars on Obverse, No Drapery at elbow 1838-40
Stars on Obverse Drapery at elbow 1840-59
Arrows at Date 1853-55
Legend on Obverse 1860-73

How they would decide which of the dime, quarters and halves to include would be quite a challenge since there are so many obverse and reverse varieties that can be considered major enough to warrant a hole for each combination of them.

I have begun to assemble my version of a Liberty Seated coinage type set which will ultimately total 40 coins.
Here is a list of the coins I have included in the set:

That is an awesome ambitious take of the Seated Liberty series Gyrene especially since your tackling 4 Trade dollars and 3 Seated Liberty dollars even in F-Vf condition that is going to run at least $1500-2000 for just the dollars.

Yes sirdizzy, it is quite an ambitious undertaking but at least it is one that can be accomplished. I like the seated liberty design and there is no way that I could ever assemble complete sets of any of the various denominations, there are too many "stoppers" in each so I got out my Red Book and did a little research and discovered that a set of all of the major types could be attainable. I have five Half Dimes (four obverses and one reverse variety), one dime, two quarters and one Trade dollar so far. My goal is a set grading no less than AU-50 and not more than AU-58 and to finish it in four years.

I agree. Go albumless when doing a type set. I sold an empty 7070 on ebay a couple years ago and dont regret it.

I see a lot of people advocating going albumless, some of us really enjoy our albums though. I love my albums and the ability to open it up and just see all those coins displayed right there in front of me. I would never go albumless if I did anything I would go blank page albums and fill it with what I want.

I do wish they made a slab album that would be cool like they have a proof set album.

Well said.

Obviously I am in the album camp, but I have respect for those who build the high-end slab sets. They are, in their own way, special to see.

jbuck that is the beauty of collecting, one can build a collection to how they like it. Me personally I am an album person so I can see all the coins laid out right there in front of you in all their glory, others might like slabbed set. I would do slabbed sets if their were albums for them but that would be one bulky album.

There are, but they are definitely bulky...
