There may some confusion with the OP. Lincoln cents weren't minted for circulation in San Francisco between 1955 and 1967, and not after 1974, so if you are trying to find newer (post 1974) S mint cents, they don't exist.

Quote: I understand not getting the older ones but why are the newer ones so scarce? Th San Francisco mint stopped minting coins in 1955. So there were no "S" mint coins for the years 1956 through 1967. (no coins from 1965 - 1967 had mint marks) They did start minting "S" mint coins in 1968 for business strikes and Proofs. With out pulling out the books, about 1974 San Francisco minted only proof "S" mint cents not intended for circulation. It has been that way to current date.

Godless, 1969 and 1973 are the only two LMC S's you need.

Off topic, but hear me out. I cannot help you with the "S" since I released mine into the wild a while back. They made me happy to find and it was my hope and wish to make the finders happy as well.
godless117, my dad had a peculiar practice: he would give away 1909 Lincolns to new collectors. This was back in the late 1950s and early 1960s. I still have a few and it would be keeping up the tradition if I gave the last away. And that they would go to Canadian collectors would please me very much. After all, I found a LOT of Canadian coins here in Connecticut. Pay back, as it were.
Would there be much of a problem if I slipped one or two into a standard envelope and sent them first class? With Customs, I mean. Would you would like a sample? They are not worth enough to insure.
Any others would be a giveaway prize, TO CANADIANS, in a contest just to make it interesting.
Advice, please.

I have not had any problems sending coins from the UK to Canada. I use hobby supplies as the description on the customs form.
Looking forward to seeing your contest and seeing the responses from Canadians who received a coin because of your kindness.

How kind of you, kena! If Canadian collectors start a set of US Lincoln Cents, I just want to help them out. I'll get to work on the contest. Giveaway? 'twould make me happy.
Maybe my Canadian cents and nickels from 1920 to 1964 would be appreciated as well. ALL gathered from circulation over the years. Here in the US.

yea that would be super awesome! Don't think I'd be finding any 1909 LWC in the wild up here in Ontario, the earliest I've found are 1914, 1916, 1916 D.

My reason? My dad gave away 1909 cents to new collectors. and I have a few left. Way back in the late 50s and early 1960s.
I'd like to carry on the tradition. On parle francais. English spoken.
Sorry, fellow Yanks, but I have long had a soft spot for the Canucks. Or is that Cannucks?
They were my dad's finds, so I want them to go to a loving home.

One of the reasons you do not find S mint pennies or S mint anything is many people save all S mint coins. Some hoard anything with an S on it. Many S minted coins had low mintages so again, a reason to hoard them. And too as already noted, the farther you are from the West coast, the less you will find in change or in most places. Then too the stopping of S minted coins for circulation also makes people hoard them.
